Openings: ROA – “Carrion” @ Backwoods Gallery

The Beligum-based ROA, who was recently featured on MOCAtv, has a new exhibition in Melbourne at the Backwoods Gallery entitled Carrion. Fans down under may remember his last showing in Oz in 2010 (covered), but this time the street artist took it up a notch with his installations. Along with his anatomical dissections of native species with his brushstrokes, the art was surrounded by tanks filled with decaying creatures and skeletal remains. Check out all the photos below… Photo credit: Chasing Ghosts. Discuss this show here. […]

Videos: ROA on MOCAtv

This week’s new video from MOCAtv in their Art In The Streets section comes from ROA and filmmaker Colin Day. Like most of the previous videos in the series (also see JR, Barry McGee, RETNA, and Swoon), there is ample footage of the artists in the streets as well as at times in the studio. This particular piece also features a monologue from the Belgium-based street muralist as he discusses the philosophy behind his art, how he chooses his subjects, as well as his last solo show in San […]

Streets: Askew One (New Zealand)

Dubbed the Askew Tankfarm Project, this newest endeavor from New Zealand’s best is located in Auckland near the wharf in the Wynyard Quarter. By painting over a cluster of silos, a nod to the area’s industrial past, Askew has creating a stunning new public art attraction. The lettering recounting the entire poem Auckland by C.K. Stead is a nice touch. Check out more of the photos below…

Streets: World Roundup (Nov 19 – Nov 25)

This week’s look at public art around the world is headlined by this new piece (source) from Case (aka Andreas von Chrzanowski) in Frankfurt, Germany. Other worthy pieces come from Escif – Spain, Kidult – Belgium (source), Remi Rough & Shok-1 – London (source), Mesa – Italy, Christiaan Nagel – London, Remed – Morocco, Pixel […]

VickiPages – “Rednecked Falcon on Woodland” @ JuiceTank

The next artist on tap to work on the walls of the start-up incubator JuiceTank is VickiPages. Vic’s a unique artist that doesn’t shy away from his illustrative chops. One of his artistic projects he’s been focused on the past few years is The Camo Project, is a selection of illustrations that place specific animals along side camouflage patterns he’s designed and created. For this mural, he was challenged with a massive 17 x 8 foot wall and he answered with a new installment of the aforementioned series. […]
