Openings: “The Rejects” @ Reed Projects Gallery

Last weekend in Norway, the inaugural show at Reed Projects Gallery, The Rejects, opened featuring work from Vhils, Roa, Escif, Dolk, Evol, Dan Witz and Brad Downey. The new showspace is the brainchild of the same people behind the annual Nuart Festival in Stavenger and presumably will now become the indoor gallery of those artists involved. Streets: Case (Germany)

Last we met Andreas von Chrzanowski aka Case, it was in Los Angeles where he was showing in a group show at LeBasse Projects (covered) as well as hitting the streets with friends and fellow Germans Hera and Akut. It was then that we became increasingly enamored with his technique, spray skills, and imagery. This recent mural he painted in his home country in Schmalkalden a a newly opened skatepark only serves to remind us of this love for his special style.

A couple weeks back, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery also hosted a new solo from Kevin Cyr (interviewed) alongside Doze Green and Eric White. In Praise of Rust features the New York-based painter’s signature depictions of old vehicles, especially those with the patina of age and graffiti on its surface. If you have a similar appreciation of these vans and delivery trucks seen in most big cities, then stop by to check out the work before the show closes on June 16th. Discuss Kevin Cyr here.

Openings: HUSH – “Sirens” @ Metro Gallery

Last night, Melbourne artlovers were treated to a new solo show from Hush (interviewed) at the Metro Gallery. Entitled Sirens, the new body of work consisted of 13 large pieces and 24 smaller more experimental works as well as a wall murals and some hand finished touches. The new pieces have been in the making for over six months, time well spent building up layers and mixtures of chaotic throws, urban elements, textures, and the female form. Showing: Doze Green – “Luminosity in the Dark Rift” @ Jonathan LeVine

One of the artists displaying works alongside Eric White’s current showing (covered) is New York-born, Northern California-based artist Doze Green, in what is his fourth solo exhibition at Jonathan LeVine. Luminosity in the Dark Rift, features a series of mixed media works on canvas, panel, and paper all demonstrating his signature combinations of cubism, abstract lifeforms, and stylized letterforms leading to rich and complex compositions. As a followup to a piece he put up last week Alfama district of Lisbon, Vhils has also created a mural high above the city as well as in Aveiro (seen above). The recent increase in street activity in his home base is a precursor to the Portuguese artist’s show opening on June 1st at the Vera Cortês Art Agency entitled Diorama. Over the weekend, Known Gallery presented a solo exhibition by artist Augustine Kofie (featured). Titled Working An Angle, this new collection of artwork continues to show the great craftsmanship and style that Kofie continues to perfect. Leading off our summary of last week’s notable public art is this mural from Philippe Hérard (photo by morac19, via Juxtapoz). Utilizing a mixture of paint and newspapers, Hérard is able to create a whimsical piece for the streets of Paris.
