Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part II

Continuing with the coverage of JR ‘s work through out Los Angeles, here we have a look at the 2nd wall that he and his crew have finished. Organized by Daniel Salin, this new mural was begun by JR early in the morning and they finished later that night. Stay tuned for more coverage as JR moves across the City of Angels leaving his mark. Openings: “When Herakut Met Lucent” @ The Palace Theater

Last weekend, German street artists Herakut teamed up with circus troupe Lucent Dossier for a performance at the legendary Palace Theatre. The two day event, dubbed appropriately When Herakut Met Lucent, incorporated the duo’s artwork in with the talents of all the performers creating an incredible experience of bringing their signature characters to life. Openings: F*CK Art @ Museum of Sex

AM recently attended the wild premiere of F*CK Art, at New York’s Museum of Sex. As the bold title indicates, the group exhibition curated with the help of Mighty Tanaka aimed to pique the interest in both sex and art by pushing and melding the boundaries with the movement from the streets. Streets: ROA (Stockholm)

In contrast to the tropical weather AM is experiencing here in Hawaii for POW WOW, it looks like Stockholm is still experiencing a cold front. As you must know by now after reading our preview article, ROA was in Sweden for a solo show recently (more on this later). Openings: POW WOW ’12 @ Loft In Space

Last night, after a week of painting murals throughout the city (more on this later), the artists of POW WOW got together for an opening party at Loft In Space. The art festival brought many quality street and graffiti artists to the island, the likes of which are not often seen in Hawaii. POW WOW ’12: Preview

Besides all the walls being beautified around industrial district of Kaka’ako in Hawaii, Loft In Space will also be opening up a gallery show tonight (6-10pm) that will put the indoor skills of each artist to the test. Besides some canvas pieces from most POW WOW participants, two other side projects will open on the second floor of the showspace. Eugene Kan of Hypebeast has curated a photography exhibition titled Day Job? and Arktip magazine has created a pop up shop specifically for the show. […]

POW WOW ‘ 12 / Streets: 123Klan x Slick x Flying Fortress

Across from Loft In Space, the neighboring wall was attacked by 123Klan, Slick, and Flying Fortress for some of the outdoor portion go POW WOW. Almost completed, the piece features elements specific to Hawaii like their love for shaved ice, volcanoes, and orchids to more serious topics like how Dole Pineapple has affected the indigenous people.
