Openings: Hush – “Found” with White Walls in New York

On Friday, AM attended the opening of Hush’s (interviewed) latest show Found in New York’s hip Lower East Side. The pop-up show hosted by White Walls Gallery was a quick drive-by as it only lasted the weekend. Held in the beautiful Angel Orensanz Foundation for Contemporary Art, the historic synagogue was transformed into a grand display with the help of some creative lighting and Hush’s “Geisha Portrait” series which we previewed recently in a studio visit. Streets: LUDO – “Co-Branding” (Paris)

If you remember, we brought you some “Halloweenism” from LUDO (interviewed) recently. Now, take a look at some of the origins of the series with the “co-branding” project that he’s been working on concurrently in Paris. The “Del Monte” trash can we posted last month was the first piece of this new series, so it looks like he’s branching out from his “Nature’s Revenge” imagery somewhat. Armsrock’s Residency at Print Workshop (Hjoerring)

Always one to expand his horizons, Danish artist Armsrock (interviewed) recently completed a residency at a print workshop in Hjoerring. We last saw his work at a show in London in June, but perhaps he will be using some new techniques he learned in his December solo “Nocturne On A Drainpipe Flute” at Wonderland Art Space in Copenhagen. South Yorkshire’s finest – Kid Acne – opened his latest solo show in London last week at Concrete Hermit. ‘When the Smoke Clears’ brings a fine selection of the varied aspects of this artist’s oeuvre together in one space. The installation begins with the hundreds of one-line-drawings of Kid Acne’s signature house emblem in white paint marker pen on the window to the gallery and store. Previews: RAE – “Unconventional Conviction” @ Brooklynite Gallery

Opening this Saturday at Brooklynite Gallery is “Unconventional Conviction,” the first solo show by Brooklynite’s own Rae McGrath. Stepping out from his role as the gallery’s owner and curator, RAE will now get to experience how the other half lives by exhibiting his own artwork. Rae’s work consists of pop-art mixed media pieces created from the vivid colored plastic and labels of laundry detergent bottles, as well as black and white photography of everyday people. Hush (interviewed) is in the Big Apple and already making his mark on the Lower East Side. A couple weeks ago, Aakash Nihalani’s geometric forms took over the Bose Pacia space in New York. Aakash’s work has certainly progressed from the tape work that initially made his name. The increasingly complex sculptural pieces certainly bring to mind the techniques and imagery of the street pieces they reference, but in a more refined way – a perfect transition to the indoors. AM has been keeping a close eye on AEC and Waone, who together form the Ukranian duo Interesni Kazki (Interesting Fairy Tales). Earlier this year, the two Kiev-based artists had a solo show at Galerie All Over in Lyon, France. Last month, original drawings by them were displayed at Pictures On Walls in a group show coinciding with the launch (featured) of Tristan Manco‘s new book, Street Sketchbook: Journeys.
