Streets: Bumblebee in Los Angeles

Bumblebee is a Los Angeles-based artist who has been beautifying the streets with public installations containing those black and yellow body-haired flying insects. Bumblebees are so essential to our lives, yet they are disappearing at an alarming rate and their plight may be overlooked. He is using these potentially endangered species to communicate with the community and highlight such forgotten methods, such as the newspaper stand, which is quickly becoming replaced by the instantaneous news on the internet, and the phone booth, which has been […]

Openings: “Represent” Group Show @ Blackall Studios

A group show that we previewed here a while back, “Represent,” opened a couple weeks ago at Blackall Studios in London. Curated by Matt Small (interviewed), the show featured artists such as Swoon (interviewed), and ELBOW-TOE (interviewed) among others – all who have developed their own approach to portraiture. Once reserved for the rich, these artists use portrait painting to bring focus to social issues that otherwise may go unnoticed. In fact, part of the proceeds from the show Single Homelessness Project, a charity Small […]

Showing: Lava Collective “Cityscape” Group Show @ Dray Walk Gallery London

AM happened upon this good looking pop-up show at the Dray Walk Gallery in London’s Truman Brewery complex this week organised by the freshly formed Lava Collective. Lava brought over Brooklyn residents Peru Ana Ana Peru for their first showing of work in the UK, and their installation dominated the huge space. Peru Ana Ana Peru had just opened a show at Brooklynite Gallery a couple of weeks back (covered here), and we felt their use of audio and visual media as part of the […]

Video: Neckface Movie Trailer

Artasty recently hipped us to the fact that Neckface, our favorite satanic latrinaliaist, is currently filming as the subject of a documentary.  Directed by Ty Evans, whom you may remember co-directed the “Yeah Right!” skate video alongside Spike Jonze, the movie is currently filming and apparently has been for a couple years.  Evans recently told Slash Film that: “The Necface doc is super rough right now. I started filming Neck back in 2005. A lot has happened since then and there is a lot more […]

Take a look at all the images after the jump…

Releases: Shepard Fairey and WK Interact – “Revolution Girl”

With WK Interact’s latest body of work currently showing at Subliminal Projects (covered), it’s no surprise that SP has decided to release a few of the remaining Shepard Fairey X WK Interact “Revolution Girl” screen prints from 2007. The print is signed by both Shepard and WK, measures in at 18″ X 24″ and can be found here.

Teaser: “Grifters” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

A new show is about to hit London December 4th and it’s going to be a doozy. Lazarides Gallery (Rathbone) is putting together a serious group show called “Grifters.” Bringing together the group they infamously dubbed “the Outsiders” (here) they look to bring the heat both inside and outside with fresh works from: Polly Morgan, David Choe, Conor Harrington (interviewed), Vhils, Lucy Mclauchlan, Paul Insect, Invader, Charlie Isoe, Zevs, Faile, Antony Micallef (interviewed), Jonathan Yeo, Mode 2, Mark Jenkins, Todd James/ REAS, and more. We’ll […]

50 Parties Art Auction @ Ryan McGinness Studios

On Friday, AM had the pleasure of attending one of Ryan McGinness‘ exclusive 50 Parties events held at his SOHO studio. Given that all the major New York auction houses had held their fall sales during the week, it was appropriate that McGinness’ party that night was itself an auction – but one in which the artists themselves were the sellers, with no auction house taking a commission. Sixteen works were on the block, including pieces by David Ellis, Jose Parla, Cheryl Dunn, Todd “REAS” […]

Openings: “The Good The Bad and The Ugly” @ Gallery Nosco

If you a fan of Alexandros Vasmoulakis and looking forward to his first US solo in March at LeBasse Projects, then “The Good The Bad and The Ugly” group show should serve as a nice appetizer for you. Vasmoulakis, originally from Athens, is primarily known for his street work, particularly the large murals depicting his contorted and slightly abstract figures all painted in his signature illustrative style. The show, which also featured Naomi Doran and Dran opened last week at Gallery Nosco. More images after […]
