Releases: Aiko – Original Spray Paint & Gallon Paint Cans

Last week when Aiko opened her dynamic show “Love Monster” (covered) at Joshua Liner Gallery, we noted a great installation created out of hand painted, stenciled and collaged spray paint and gallon paint cans. Since the doors opened, there have been numerous inquiries and requests, but these little gems were unfortunately not available for sale. Well, fans are now in luck because Aiko and the gallery have decided to make these hand created originals available. The price on these gems is a steal: the spray paint cans are $120 and […]

Releases: KAWS 4 Foot Dissected Companion

It was only a matter of time…  KAWS collectors must be in a frenzy this morning as news breaks of a 4-foot dissected companion.  No details yet of when this delicious piece of vinyl drops, but we will be sure to let you know when we hear word.

Teaser/Releases: Nick Walker – “A Sequence of Events” @ Black Rat Press

Bristol vandal Nick Walker returns to Black Rat Press in London on May 28th to unveil his latest show “A Sequence of Events.” If Walker’s past shows are any indication of what we can expect, fans have a nice treat in store for them. With creative pieces that consistently hold their own against work from that other relatively famous artist from Bristol, AM is looking forward to seeing what Walker dreams up this time. The opening will also mark the release and signing for Walker’s […]

Preview: Jose Parla – “Reading Through Seeing” @ Ooi Botos Gallery (Hong Kong)

José Parlá’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, “Reading Through Seeing,” (teased) opens on May 14th at Oos Botos Gallery in Hong Kong. In addition to his signature abstract calligraphic paintings and watercolors, the show also includes several of Parla’s beautiful Bizen-yaki pottery (featured) works. This latest series can be summed up in one word: stunning. The most color-rich and vibrant in recent memory, the works are most likely reflective of Parla’s positive expressions of Asia based on his “The New Grand Tour” cultural exchange […]

Streets: Faile – Spinning Prayer Wheel

Brooklyn based collective Faile have taken their street work to another level and put a nice “spin” on things by installing one of their prayer wheels (close-up feature) on North 6th Street in the Williamsburg neighborhood of New York City. Hand-carved from Merbau wood, the prayer wheels made their debut at Faile’s “Lost in Glimmering Shadows” (covered) show last year. Hopefully the steel bolted base and 100 pound weight means this piece will be around for fans to enjoy for some time – wishful thinking. […]

Openings: Aiko – “Love Monster” @ Joshua Liner

AM was out in Chelsea last Saturday night to attend the opening of AIKO’s solo show “Love Monster” at Joshua Liner Gallery. And Lady Aiko didn’t disappoint, filling the entire gallery with eye-popping works, from floor to ceiling mixed-media canvases to striking stenciled windows to an installation of stenciled paint cans. By all accounts, the show is a must see. But for those who can’t get there in person, check out the pics after the jump.

Interviews/Releases: ABOVE

ABOVE, the prolific street artist best known for his wooden arrow mobiles, clever wordplay pieces and most recently, his social and political commentary stencils, has long been putting up work throughout the world that both brings huge smiles and invokes serious contemplation. As long time fans, AM was thrilled to gain further insight into ABOVE’s recent work, thoughts on the economic crisis and his whirlwind journey during his “South Central” tour. To coincide with this interview, ABOVE just released a hand-pulled screen print on his […]

Openings: Conor Harrington & Chloe Early – “Chasing Castles” @ Kinsey/DesForges Gallery

An enthused crowd was on hand at Kinsey/DesForges for the opening of “Chasing Castles” (previewed), the first showing of a full-body of work in the United States by London based artists Conor Harrington and Chloe Early (interviewed). Both made the trip across the pond for the opening and happily chatted with fans about their work and the underlying message behind their rich, multi-layered, vibrantly colored pieces. For the show Harrington continued his exploration of symbols of power, masculinity, and their related societal expectations through his […]

Preview/Interviews: Conor Harrington & Chloe Early – “Chasing Castles” @ Kinsey/DesForges Gallery

London based artists Conor Harrington and Chloe Early have a joint exhibition opening tomorrow, Saturday April 18th, at the influential Kinsey/DesForges gallery in Culver City. Both have shown work individually in group shows in the United States before, but “Chasing Castles” marks the first showing of a full body of work stateside for both artists. It is also the first time the pair’s work has been exhibited together. AM loves the multi-layered aesthetic of these talented artists, who took some time to answer a few […]
