Seen on the Streets/Contest: Armsrock

Denmark street artist Armsrock left his mark on Los Angeles while he was in town for “Mostly Memory,” his two-person solo with Elbow-Toe held at Thinkspace (previously covered). The pieces Armsrock put up reminded us why he is one of the most prolific street artists of our time. He has a keen eye that lends to exceptional placement of his pieces. His large paper figures interact with the environments they occupy, be it an alley, on a neighbordhood fence, or a condemned building. Our friends […]

On the eve of the presidential inauguration, the artists and volunteers that led the charge of Barack Obama’s triumphant grassroots campaign celebrated with a star-studded event that rivaled many of the inaugural balls the following night. With live performances by Santo Gold,  Adam Freeland, DJ Trouble Maker, Grammy winning artists: De La Soul, Moby, and of course DJ Diabetic himself (Shepard Fairey); it was no wonder the venue was packed to the brim and rockin’ deep […]

Openings: Know Hope @ Ad Hoc Art

Know Hope’s show (previewed) at Ad Hoc Art opened last weekend in NY to a pretty good crowd.  As with most of his shows, the centerpiece was an installation, vividly bringing to life the imagery of his art.  His well-known grappling and intertwined characters were again the stars in this body of work that seemed to have a seafaring theme. See more pics after the jump.

(previously announced here.) AM was invited to come along all-access and document the historic unveiling ceremony. The elegant brunch reception in the Smithsonian courtyard preceded the unveiling as Shepard mingled with the “who’s who” that […]
