Studio Visit: Kid Acne

Kid Acne has a solo show opening on 31st March at London’s StolenSpace Gallery entitled Rhythm is a Dancer which we at AM have been anticipating for a while. He has been spending time between Paris and the UK of late where we’ve seen him pasting his series of Art Fags on the streets. Acne has recently returned to his UK base of Sheffield, where is has taken up a studio space to prepare a new body of work for the upcoming show. We recently […]

Studio Visit: Polly Morgan

AM recently had the opportunity to go visit Polly Morgan in her East London studio. We anticipated what we might see. Tales of Polly’s ‘chamber of horrors’ from friends who had visited previously sounded intriguing and exciting, and this promised to be a very different studio visit experience for us. Polly is a member of the Guild of Taxidermists, and has been working as an artist since 2005, since which she has shown work via Banksy at the ’05 Santa’s Ghetto, at the currently hibernating […]

Studio Visits: Shepard Fairey – “Revolutions” @ Robert Berman Gallery

AM recently visited the studio of friend Shepard Fairey (featured) to preview his works for the coming show at Robert Berman Gallery in Los Angeles. As previously mentioned, Shepard is going back to his roots where he will focus on Obey’s his involvement in the music scene. From Punk, Rock to Rap, Shepard has created his fair share of iconic music and art collaborations. We got to preview not only his fine art HPM album covers, but also saw his duo album cover set, each containing […]

Studio Visit: Lucas Price

Lucas Price seems to be an artist in an ever changing state of evolution. His last major UK solo show Jesus Help Me Find My Proper Place suggested a level of confusion within its title – the work exhibited was produced in a variety of styles in an almost perfect allegory for his life as a fine artist under his own name, and also his street bombing alter ego of Cyclops. The work in the accomplished exhibition suggested that the artist had been in a […]

Studio Visits / Preview: James Jean – “Rebus” @ Martha Otero

As you may know, James Jean (interviewed) has an upcoming show enititled “Rebus” at Martha Otero on March 12th. What you may not know is that this body of work has been over two years in the making. Since his groundbreaking show “Kindling” at Jonathan Levine, James has been expanding his style to a body of work that’s larger in scale and looser in composition. AM had a chance to stop by and hang out at his Los Angeles studio last year where he was already neck […]

Studio Visit: Crash

In anticipation for his current show at one of our favorite hangouts bOb lounge & gallery, AM paid a visit to the studio of old school graffiti writer and pop artist Crash (John Matos). His Lichtenstein inspired style mixed with his 80’s graffiti know-how creates a unique approach for this urban veteran. It’s been over a year since we last caught his overseas exhibition in the UK, so we were excited to get a chance to see Crash in action working at his Bronx laboratory. […]

Studio Visit: Remi/Rough

Continuing on from our look into Steve More’s Edinburgh studio, AM now brings you a peek into the bottom-of-the-garden studio of Remi/Rough. The artistic pairing of Agents of Change collaborators Rough and More are realised in the upcoming exhibition entitled ‘A’, opening on Tuesday 1st February at Blackall Studios in London. Remi works out of a purpose built log cabin style studio located in deepest, darkest East Dulwich. He paints using the natural light of daytime, and the immediate connection you make when visiting the […]

Studio Visit: Eddie Colla, D Young V, and Shark Toof

On occasion of his inclusion in Spoke Art’s Urban Osmosis exhibition (which we previewed last week), the Los Angeles-based Shark Toof made the much-traveled trek north to the Bay Area.  While in the area, Mr. Toof knocked on the doors to the Oakland studio of his friends and occasional mischievous collaborators, Eddie Colla and D Young V to check out the impressive installation piece they were creating for the exhibition.  Consisting of the familiar sight of East Bay Express newspaper boxes (although you normally don’t […]

Studio Visit/Preview: Dennis McNett

AM paid a visit to Dennis McNett’s studio while he was finishing up work for his show Reaping Waves and Vital Vessels, opening this Thursday at Joshua Liner Gallery. The space was packed with linocut and woodcut printed paper and hand-painted wood carvings, and McNett described his grand plans for filling the entire gallery with individual works and large-scale installations assembled from the various pieces. Much of the imagery appeared highly influenced by Greek and Norse history and mythology, with representations of wolves, serpents and […]

Studio Visits: Kid Zoom – “This City Will Eat Me Alive” @ Opera (Meatpacking)

This Saturday, December 11th (7pm), Kid Zoom is having his first ever US solo at a pop-up space (72 Gansevoort St. New York, NY 10014) in Manhattan’s Meatpacking district. The show is hosted by Opera Gallery and it looks to be pretty fresh. Ron English tipped us off on the Aussie artist a while back and we’ve been keeping an eye on him ever since. Looking forward to see the upcoming show, we dropped by KZ’s Brooklyn studio to catch him putting the final touches […]
