Studio Visits: JR – “Encrages” @ Galerie Perrotin

In anticipation of his solo exhibition at Galerie Perrotin on November 19th, AM recently stopped by JR’s New York studio. The show entitled Encrages will take over both floors of Emmanuel Perrotin’s beautiful flagship space. The TED prize winning photographer is going to need it as this giant exhibition will bring together many of JR’s past projects including Women are Heroes and Wrinkles in the City. AM recently visited TrustoCorp’s secret lair in anticipation of their opening at New York’s Opera Gallery tomorrow, October 20th. The show entitled Life Cycle will be based around the aspects of growing up in the American culture including the life stages of childhood, puberty, adulthood and death. The twin brothers Ad Deville and Droo who make up Skewville first came to prominence around 1999, when their wooden sneakers became an ubiquitous sight hanging from New York power lines. Since then, they have continued to push the boundaries of street communications. Opening this Thursday, September 8th, at Chelsea’s Joshua Liner Gallery is East Weets Mest, the second full-gallery solo exhibition by Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) Recently, we were lucky enough to have the chance to visit Matsu’s studio as he was finishing preparing for the show, and we were blown-away by what we saw.
