Upcoming: Swoon – “Thalassa” @ Detroit Institute of Arts

Starting on September 24th, the Detroit Institute of Arts will unveil an installation from Swoon (interviewed) entitled Thalassa. The 20-foot tall, 400-pound sculptural piece named after the Greek goddess of the sea – originally displayed in New Orleans (covered) – will be adapted for DIA’s Great Hall. The massive work from the American artist will be suspended from the ceiling and will coincide with a mural project in Detroit’s Jefferson-Chalmers district. Showing: “City Lights” @ Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art

Although the opening was delayed due to the terrible recent events in Brussels, City Lights at the newly formed Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art ended up kicking off successfully earlier this month. Featuring the works of Maya Hayuk, Swoon, Momo, and Faile, the exhibition included installations from the American artist to go along with original works on display. Photo credit: la Repubblica.  

Previews / Setup: Swoon & Monica Canilao – “Witch-Wife” @ Chandran Gallery

On February 19th, Chandran Gallery in San Francisco will be presenting Witch-Wife, a two person show from Swoon (interviewed)  and long time collaborator Monica Canilao. The title of the show refers to a woman who practices witchcraft as well as is a nod to the longstanding artistic relationship between the duo. New Group Show @ Library Street Collective

On February 27th, the Library Street Collective will be opening a group show at their Detroit space featuring a diverse selection of artists spanning different genres. Included on the roster are Adrian Falkner, AJ Fosik, Cleon Peterson, Faile, Hacer, Kelsey Brookes, Mars-1, POSE, REVOK, Ryan McGinness (seen above), Sam Friedman, Shepard Fairey, and Swoon. Basel Week Miami ’15 / Showing: SCOPE

One of the first satellite fairs we hit during Basel Week Miami was SCOPE Miami, situated nicely in their pavilion on the beach off Ocean Drive. Celebrating its 15th anniversary edition with 120 international exhibitors from 22 countries and 57 cities, the fair had something for everyone including this Suck Face bronze from D*Face seen above and the Felipe Pantone installation seen directly below. Openings: “Mapping The City” @ Somerset House (London)

Following the success of the 2014 exhibition Futurismo Ancestral: An Offering to Peru by Sixe Paredes (covered), the collaborative arts organization Approved by Pablo curated a new exhibition entitled Mapping The City in London, running until 15 February. Over 50 internationally recognized artists from the street art and graffiti scene including took over the New Wing of Somerset House to share their knowledge of each city’s secrets and urban landscape through a variety of media from illustrations, paintings, sculptures, installations and videos. Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: Swoon

Along with a large installation piece as part of The Dean Collection at SCOPE Miami and an underwater art extravaganza at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel pool, Swoon (interviewed) also presented a new mural for her fans that made it out to Basel Week Miami.
