Continuing its travel throughout the museums of the world, Reshaped Reality: 50 Years of Hyperrealistic Sculpture has now touched down at the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall in Taiwan. Showing through September 22nd, the exhibition features hyperrealistic sculptures from a roster of internationally recognized artists like Patricia Piccinini, Ron Mueck, Kazuhiro Tsuji, and more. As referenced but the title, the artists explore the human form rendered in deceptively and disturbingly realistic detail but oftentimes with a surreal touch. Over the weekend in Taiwan, fans of KAWS experienced what their counterparts in Seoul felt (covered) when the American artist’s impressive HOLIDAY companion sculpture was revealed. Produced in a sitting position rather then laying down, the 36 meter tall inflatable figure relaxed itself at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei and will be on view through the 27th of this month. Upcoming: “KAWS:HOLIDAY” (Taipei)

Later today in Taiwan, KAWS will be unveiling the next iteration of his KAWS:HOLIDAY program after its debut in Seoul last year (covered). On view at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall between January 19 and 27 in Taipei will be the New York-based artist’s largest work to date, a 36-meter tall inflatable version of his signature Companion figure. Recap: Usugrow @ Woolloomooloo Xhibit

After a solo last month in Japan (covered), Usugrow followed it up by opening an exhibition in Taipei while there for POW! WOW! Taiwan. The showing presented by Remix ＆ G-SHOCK at the Woolloomooloo Xhibit space featured the Japanese artist’s characteristic mix of urban calligraphy & Los Angeles “cholo” subculture. Last month, Gary Baseman (interviewed) opened a comprehensive retrospective show at the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei. Entitled The Door Is Always Open, the exhibition mirrored the delightful showing of the same name last year in Los Angeles (covered). Along with over 500 selected pieces, his largest collection of work in one place yet, the opening also included an art performance with his “WildGirls” with a new dance and musical composition. Last week, the first POW! WOW! Taiwan wrapped up successfully as invited artists finished public works throughout the capital city of Taipei. Only few months after creating his first ever outdoors mural for their event in Honolulu (covered), James Jean (interviewed) was invited to join the POW! WOW! family at their first edition of POW! WOW! Taiwan. Designated an old rugged wall at the Taipei Zoo, the Taiwanese American visual artist fought the elements and created this impressive mural titled Paradise.
