Releases: Vhils, Sainer, Nunca X Underdogs (Lisbon)

Just in time for the holiday season the Underdogs Gallery (in the beautiful city of Lisbon) just dropped a trifecta print release. Showing: Vhils – “Vestiges” @ Magda Danysz (Paris)

Portugese artist Vhils recently opened a new solo show at Galerie Magda Danysz in Paris. Entitled Vestiges, the exhibition showcases his various unique techniques in which he engraves portraits and abstract patterns onto cork, metal, wood and paper. Using these techniques, Vhils continues to explore the ideas of destruction and creation within urban environments and the collective memory of city inhabitants. Check out images from the show below. Streets: Vhils (Los Angeles)

Over the last several days, Vhils (filmed) has been busy working his magic in downtown Los Angeles with some new murals arranged by LeBasse Projects. The last time we saw him in the area was in 2011 when we have the chance to catch some of the footage of his unique mark-making in the streets. This newest piece features the Portuguese artist’s portraiture chiseled into this wall near Chinatown as per his usual technique. Streets: Vhils (Poland)

Once again employing methods unique to him in street art game, Vhils (filmed) recently finished this piece for the Urban Forms Gallery public works series in Lodz, Poland. Featuring some of the foliage that has been seen recently in his urban portraiture, the chiseled wall leaves a lasting mark on the city that won’t be soon forgotten. Recap: MyFinBec Pop Up Show (Berlin)

After their inaugural show at their winery in Sion, Switzerland, the MyFinBec project (introduced) toured around Europe showing the commissioned artworks at pop up shows in Cologne, London, Rome, and now has finally reached Berlin. Featuring  eight original artworks, small scale murals painted on 672 wood wine cases in total, by the likes of  Vhils, Herakut, C215, and Etam Cru, these unique events were a perfect mixture of art and wine tasting. Streets: World Roundup (Sept 22 – Oct 12)

With this latest edition of our Streets: World Roundup article, we turn our eyes to Las Vegas for our featured mural from ROA. The Belgium-based artist withstood the desert heat for four days of hard work before completing this piece with the image of a horny toad, a local species that can squirt blood out of its eyes to deter predators. Previews: MyFinBec 2014 Show @ Ruttkowski;68

From the 15th till 19th of August, gallery Ruttkowski;68 in Cologne will be showing the new works from this year’s MyFinBec project. The annual series organized by the winery Cave Fin Bec in Switzerland commissions artists to create wine labels for their special limited edition organic wine. This year’s lineup included VHILS from Portugal, Herakut from Germany, C215 from France, and Etam Cru from Poland. In every instance, eight different labels were painted on stacks of 84 crates each. Earlier this month, the Electricity Museum / EDP Foundation in Lisbon hosted the opening of Vhils’ (filmed) expansive museum show, his largest to date. Entitled Dissection, the exhibition features a look at the diverse range of the Portuguese artist, highlighting his unconventional choice of mediums.
