Festival Images (Switzerland)

Starting this weekend in Vevey, Switzerland, the Festival Images kicks off with a series of outdoor and indoor projects as well as associated programming. If you remember, the event (held biannually) was anchored by the Unframed project in 2010 from French street photographer JR. This year, he’s back with Shoot, a giant photo booth creating images for his Inside Out endeavor where participants have to lay down to have their portrait shot (see photostream) and then seeing their photo drift down over 42 feet. Other artists we are excited see work […]

Streets: Walk & Talk Festival (Part I) – Vhils

After hitting up Komafest in Norway with new mural on a novel new medium – wood – Vhils has headed over to Azores, Portugal for the Walk & Talk Festival. This will be the second trip for the Lisbon-based street artist as he gifted the archipelago with several pieces last year if you remember. This time around, he made his mark on an abandoned tower  – you can’t get better placement than that. Look for more photos soon as Liqen, Mark Jenkins, Remed and more are still […]

Streets: Komafest (Part II) – Vhils

After opening a duo of shows in Lisbon and Paris, where he also was able to make his mark on the city streets in those major metropolises, Vhils moves north to the much smaller town of Vardø. The relatively tiny Norwegian town is the site of Komafest, a street art festival which hopefully will help revitalize a region that has suffered from depopulation and the decay. The Portuguese artist applied his unique technique to a something we haven’t seen before, a wooden building – with a pretty sweet result […]

Openings: Vhils – “Entropy” @ Magda Danysz (Paris)

Like his currently showing exhibition in Lisbon (covered), master of all mediums Vhils (filmed) took the opportunity to showcase his versatility with a diverse selection for his newest solo at the Magda Danysz Paris location. After spreading his love with multiple murals throughout the city (including a map), fans of the Portugal-based street specialist finally got to see some of his indoor work including his new styrofoam pieces. And, what a show it is! The comprehensive exhibition entitled Diorama devoted entire rooms to the various mediums the street artist favors for indoor work including mixed media on paper, metal, wood, and a new technique with styrofoam. Look for more from Vhils as he moves on for a showing at Magda Danysz in Paris […]

Openings: “The Rejects” @ Reed Projects Gallery

Last weekend in Norway, the inaugural show at Reed Projects Gallery, The Rejects, opened featuring work from Vhils, Roa, Escif, Dolk, Evol, Dan Witz and Brad Downey. The new showspace is the brainchild of the same people behind the annual Nuart Festival in Stavenger and presumably will now become the indoor gallery of those artists involved. Take a look at more photos from the opening below… Photo credit: Erik Sæter Jørgensen.

Streets / Teaser: Vhils – “Diorama” @ Vera Cortês

As a followup to a piece he put up last week Alfama district of Lisbon, Vhils has also created a mural high above the city as well as in Aveiro (seen above). The recent increase in street activity in his home base is a precursor to the Portuguese artist’s show opening on June 1st at the Vera Cortês Art Agency entitled Diorama. Fans of the Mr. Farto’s unique skills will get a double dose next month as he will also be opening a show in Paris […]
