Videos / Teaser: Mark Whalen – “Anomaly” @ Merry Karnowksy

Coming up next month, Mark Whalen (aka Kill Pixie) will be unleashing a new body of work for Merry Karnowksy Gallery where he showed last October. Although we’ll be looking forward to seeing the progression of his signature characters in their geometric environs, what blew us away were the animations he has been working on. Talk about next level shit. Also, a preview image after the jump…

Videos: Banksy’s “The Antics Roadshow”

For our readers who aren’t located in the UK, you probably haven’t seen Banksy’s one hour TV special, The Antics Roadshow, which aired on Channel 4 over the weekend. Titled as a pun on the Antiques Roadshow, a long-running British television show, Banksy explores the “history of behaving badly in public, from anarchists and activists to attention seeking eccentrics” including many interviews and re-enactments with the actual protagonists. Discuss Banksy here.

Video: The Exhibitionist – “Art in the Streets” @ MOCA

Take a look at this off-the-wall video as a man takes an interactive stop-motion journey through the Art in the Streets exhibition that recently closed. The film was directed by brothers Mark Osborne and Kent Osborne and was made in collaboration with Levi’s Film Workshop (also see Swoon & Neck Face) and Happy Product. By the way, congratulations are in order as the historic exhibition broke attendance records at the MOCA with over 200,000 street art and graf fans served. Now, we await Deitch to see […]

Videos: Ai Weiwei – “Art / Architecture” @ The Kunsthaus

The Kunsthaus in Bregenz, Austria recently opened up an exhibition Art / Architecture that explores the lesser known architectural work of the recently released Ai Weiwei. It’s certainly encouraging to see the Chinese artist continue to exhibit despite his imprisonment as well as him starting to enter social media again (Instagram & Twitter – English translation). Take a look at the video above from Vernissage TV with footage of the exhibition as well as an interview with director of the Kunsthaus Bregenz, Yilmaz Dziewior. Via Hypebeast. Discuss […]

Openings / Video – Brandon Shigeta – “ARTCUBE” @ Little Tokyo Design Week

Congratulations to contributing photographer Brandon Shigeta as his ARTCUBE installation for Little Tokyo Design Week (LTDW) was a smashing success. In fact, Brandon’s concept was chosen as the winner of this year’s Golden Astro Boy award award. This is what Jeffrey Deitch had to say – “There were a few reasons why I thought Brandon’s exhibit was the strongest. It wasn’t a piece that would have typically been found in a museum or gallery. He really conceived it for the container, and it worked well in that context. It also […]

Video: KAWS x Hennessy Studio Visit

A little while back, we brought you some photos from the Hennessy x KAWS bottle release party. In the video above, the Brooklyn based artist discusses the project on camera, but more importantly, the footage allows viewers to catch a glimpse of more of his recent work. He appears to be going with bold color schemes, some of which we showed you here, for his upcoming show in September at Honor Fraser. Via Slamxhype. Discuss KAWS here.

AM Films: Vhils – “Deconstruction”

Recently, we brought you some photos of street artist Vhils working on a wall outside of the Post No Bills gallery in Venice, California. This particular piece was created in conjunction with the European Bailout Show (covered) that opened last week and really showcases what the Portuguese artist is know for – imprinting his work permanently into the surface of whatever he is working with whatever tools he deems necessary. AM filmmaker Carlos Gonzalez was on hand to capture some of the creative process in the footage […]

Video: “Skullphone Strikes Again” @ The Standard, Hollywood

The last time we caught up with digital street specialist Skullphone in Los Angeles, it was a year ago at his show held at Subliminal Projects. The LA-based artist now returns with a project in collaboration with The Standard including The 6th Street Mural at The Standard, Downtown LA and The Box (see Tim Biskup & Ryan McGinness) at The Standard, Hollywood. Take a look at some of the footage in the video above and also make sure to head over to the Hollywood location tonight […]

The historic Art in the Streets exhibition is drawing to a close soon with the last day scheduled for August 8th. For street art and graffiti fans out there who haven’t made the trek over to the MOCA yet, make sure you put it on your to do list as you will regret not visiting. Perhaps this new video sent to us by Juan Enriquez will give you some encouragement. The footage includes interview with CornBread, Freedom, Mr. Cartoon, and Shepard Fairey. Discuss this show here.

Streets: D*Face ‘Death From Above’ Pavement installation

You probably came across the pictures online recently of the paving slab that D*Face (interviewed) installed in East London a couple of weeks back… Known for carrying out street level interventions previously such as his concrete spray cans, and also the tombstones he installed on the Hollywood walk of fame, first seen in our studio visit, AM thought the paving stunt was a pretty cool move from D*Face. It’s long gone already of course – probably taken in much the same manner it was installed – and […]
