Although we’ll be looking forward to seeing the progression of his signature characters in their geometric environs, what blew us away were the animations he has been working on. For our readers who aren’t located in the UK, you probably haven’t seen Banksy’s one hour TV special, The Antics Roadshow, which aired on Channel 4 over the weekend. Titled as a pun on the Antiques Roadshow, a long-running British television show, Banksy explores the “history of behaving badly in public, from anarchists and activists to attention seeking eccentrics” including many interviews and re-enactments with the actual protagonists. Take a look at this off-the-wall video as a man takes an interactive stop-motion journey through the Art in the Streets exhibition that recently closed. The film was directed by brothers Mark Osborne and Kent Osborne and was made in collaboration with Levi’s Film Workshop (also see Swoon & Neck Face) and Happy Product. The Kunsthaus in Bregenz, Austria recently opened up an exhibition Art / Architecture that explores the lesser known architectural work of the recently released Ai Weiwei. It’s certainly encouraging to see the Chinese artist continue to exhibit despite his imprisonment as well as him starting to enter social media again (Instagram & Twitter – English translation). Congratulations to contributing photographer Brandon Shigeta as his ARTCUBE installation for Little Tokyo Design Week (LTDW) was a smashing success. In fact, Brandon’s concept was chosen as the winner of this year’s Golden Astro Boy award award. In the video above, the Brooklyn based artist discusses the project on camera, but more importantly, the footage allows viewers to catch a glimpse of more of his recent work. Recently, we brought you some photos of street artist Vhils working on a wall outside of the Post No Bills gallery in Venice, California. This particular piece was created in conjunction with the European Bailout Show (covered) that opened last week and really showcases what the Portuguese artist is know for – imprinting his work permanently into the surface of whatever he is working with whatever tools he deems necessary. The historic Art in the Streets exhibition is drawing to a close soon with the last day scheduled for August 8th. For street art and graffiti fans out there who haven’t made the trek over to the MOCA yet, make sure you put it on your to do list as you will regret not visiting. Perhaps this new video sent to us by Juan Enriquez will give you some encouragement. The footage includes interview with CornBread, Freedom, Mr. Cartoon, and Shepard Fairey. Discuss this show here.
