Video: “Buff Monster Does Hollywood”

Last week, we brought you some photos of Buff Monster (featured) working on a spot above Hollywood Boulevard with pink paint and wheatpaste. Now comes footage of him in action leaning over the edge of the roof as well as a closer look at the “10 Years” stencil, a reference to the 10th anniversary of drawing his first signature character. Thanks to Carlos Gonzalez for the video. Discuss Buff Monster here.

Videos: JR – Inside Out Project

This spring, when JR announced that his Ted Prize wish was to “Use Art to Turn the World Inside Out” he really wasn’t joking. Using people to participate is the key and the goal is to make this the world’s largest participatory art project and since this initiative began, portraits have reached citizens on almost every continent. For review, the concept is simple. Go to the Inside Out website (here), upload your portrait so JR can send you a printout for you to wheatpaste to […]

Video: D*Face Ridiculous Pool Paint Attack

Remember when D*Face (interviewed) hit up the Ridiculous Pool, the skateboarding hotspot in San Bernardino, California back in 2009? Named because of its sweet curvature, the empty pool is perfect for skaters and this time D, who was in town for the Corey Helford anniversary show, took advantage of that fact by attaching spraycans to the decks and letting everyone paint up the pool. Check out the spirographic effect in the video above. Via LAMJC. Discuss D*Face here.

Video: Ekundayo

Ekundayo (interviewed), who we hung out with at POW WOW earlier this year, recently sent us this video of him getting up on Kapahulu in Hawaii.  Not a stranger to wall work in his home state (see here and here), the LA-based artist painted this newest piece after being inspired by an old Hawaiian legend of which he explains in the video above.  The project was supported in part by 33THIRD.com and UMIWORKSHOP.com. Video: RETNA & El Mac – “Let the Arts Roam”

RETNA (featured), who we last saw in London on his Hallelujah World Tour and El Mac, who we last saw getting up with Augustine Kofie are two frequent collaborators who recently were featured in a video portrait – Let the Arts Roam as part of the I Am Los Angeles series. Included in the footage are various murals they have worked on as well as a discussion with both artists on their philosophy behind the content of their murals, public art in poor neighborhoods, and […]

Video: David Shillinglaw – ‘All You’ll Ever Need’

AM stopped by David Shillinglaw’s huge studio space last week to check out what he has been working on in the run up to his upcoming London solo exhibition All You’ll Ever Need. The show is hosted by Cement at East Gallery and will open on 25th August. Whilst we sort through the many pictures we took at the studio, take the first look at this teaser video, beautifully shot and edited by Joanna Dudderidge. Discuss David Shillinglaw here.

Video: Tom Sachs (Selby Video)

It looks like The Selby, whose quirky studio visits we have featured here on AM in the past, have expanded into film. This time, Todd visits sculptor Tom Sachs, owner of an uncanny ability to cobble together functional contraptions out of accumulated components. We have encountered many of his handcrafted “bricolage” at various art fairs and at the Lance Armstrong organized Stages exhibitions if you remember. The footage follows Sachs in his studio where they touch on various topics including the use of assistants and […]

Videos: Blu – “Megunica” Documentary

Wow. We sat down to scan through the Megunica documentary real quick but ended up watching the whole thing. The film first made rounds in 2009 or so and has won multiple awards at various film festivals but we don’t think there has been an easy way for street art fans get ahold of it – until now. Wired Italy has now made the entire film, all 83 minutes of it, available streamed on their website. For those unfamiliar, the footage follows Blu on a […]

Showing: James Cauty – “A Riot in a Jam Jar” @ L-13

We’ve mentioned James Cauty’s work briefly in our weekly Overtime articles as well as on our facebook fanpage, but now that we have heard of an actual exhibition of his A Riot in a Jam Jar series, we thought we would feature it more in-depth. Running currently until July 5th at the L-13 Light Industrial Workshop, the sculptural dioramas feature Cauty’s take on a heavy-handed police state utilizing a increasingly complex composition. Make sure you hit up the show catalog site for more titles, descriptions, […]

You may remember back in April we wrote about the massive piece Belgian street specialist ROA put up at Unit44 as part of their White Walls Project in Newcastle. Entitled Four Horses Of The Apocalypse, it may be his most complex mural to date so enjoy the footage in the video above as you watch the a master at work. Via Hooked Blog. Discuss ROA here.
