On Friday, 4th of April, Wunderkammern Gallery in Rome opened the first Italian solo show by Aakash Nihalani. Last night, Hunting Trophies opened at the Mark Moore Gallery, Jeremy Fish’s (featured) second solo with the Culver City space. Continue using custom shapes as his painting surface as well as elaborate frames with carvings, the pieces have a finished look about them and with the impeccable linework, appear almost produced in a factory. Spanish artist Borondo recently moved to London and has been very active on the streets of the British capital. Spanish muralist Aryz recently spent few days in Linz, Austria, working on this gigantic piece titled Overprotected. The painting of the mural was organized by Bubbledays, a wakeboard, music, and streetart festival happening from the 13th to 14th of June, and was created in the Linz harbor area where the event will take place. On April 11th, the Fleisher/Ollman Gallery in Philadelphia will be opening a three person show starring Barry McGee, Dan Murphy (part of Steve Powers’ ICY Signs), and Isaac T. Lin (DFW zines). Entitled Department of Neighborhood Services, the exhibition will reunite the three friends who all have an interest in graffiti and all who have shown together before. An interesting project surfaced a couple days ago when it was announced that there was a secret short film starring Ai Weiwei in his acting debut. The dystopian sci-fi, written and directed by Jason Wishnow (the filmmaker behind “TED Talks”), made on the down low in China, features the dissident artist as a smuggler in a world without water. Coming up on April 11th, the Brooklyn Museum will be presenting a new large-scale installation from Swoon (interviewed), whom we just visited in studio earlier this year. Entitled Submerged Motherlands, the epic site-specific creation will be housed in the Iris and B.
