New York-based artist Clark Goolsby opens his new solo this coming weekend. The exhibition is aptly entitled Shatter, as Goolsby’s artworks are quite literally explosive. Shards and threads of found elements are combined within his pieces to create his multi-layered compositions. This show uses collage-based elements created by the artist alongside his assorted paint mediums of acrylic, ink and spray paint with the works being a reflection on the frenetic world in which we live, an exploration on finding order in a world that is constantly barraging […]

Last time we saw a large body of work from Kris Kuksi, he was giving his fans in Los Angeles a rare close look at his intricate mixed media assemblages (covered). This time around, he will be returning to the Joshua Liner Gallery for an exhibition entitled Revival tonight (November 21st), his fourth solo with the Chelsea showspace (see 2009 & 2012). Capetown-based artist DALeast is opening a highly anticipated solo show with The Outsiders in Newcastle on the 22nd of November. The title of the show, Redok, comes from a Tibetan phrase meaning “hope and fear,” and represents the emotions the artist tries to show with his works. The main part of this coherent new body of work are six large scale acrylic on canvas pieces on tea stained backgrounds, created over many months. With the largest piece being 200cm tall, and the smallest around 120cm, these will be some […]

Berlin’s Circle Culture Gallery recently opened their third gallery space, in addition to its other two venues in Berlin (Mitte and Hamburg). After “twelve years of fusing fine art with pop art and subcultural art,” expansion to a new, 560 sqm former warehouse on Potsdamer Strasse was a logical next step for the gallery. To celebrate this big event, they put together a huge group show featuring works from their impressive list of represented artists such as Katrin Fridriks, Maya Hayuk or Aaron Rose, with the addition of […]

Hailing from New York, Julia Chiang immerses the Midwest this fall with her work via Kansas City’s Bill Brady Gallery. Upon entry to the showspace, you are welcomed by several large “burst” paintings (seen in our studio visit) drawing you directly into the voided spaces within them. Chiang also shows off some new pieces consisting of large scale “fence” paintings alongside her more familiar glazed ceramic “drops” surrounding the space like altars. Julia keeps your attention and eyes confused with “A Word, Your Word #1,2” where she […]

A couple weeks ago, Word to Mother (interviewed) returned to San Francisco’s White Walls (see 2012) for a new solo show. Entitled California Coming Home, the London-based artist’s fresh selection of paintings incorporated Cali imagery around his signature character based on his own persona. Referring nostalgically to times past when he visited the Golden State in his childhood, the pieces express these feelings in a dream-like loose composition. He explains – “When I first visited California it was a time in my life when things were much more simple, […]

There is an old saying that the window to your soul is through the eyes. Marco Mazonni has capatilized on this, by excluding them from his brilliant color pencil drawings. The exclusion mystifies and intrigues, while the surrounding plants, flowers, and familiar animals try to ease our reactions.  Naturama features three larger works and a bounty of smaller pieces on moleskin paper, giving us a detailed look into Mazzoni’s animal kingdom. Several of the smaller pieces feature a monotone palette, with a ball-point pen replacing the usual colored pencils. Mimicking portraits […]

Wednesday night (November 20th) in Hong Kong, the local Galerie Perrotin will be opening a solo by Daniel Arsham entitled #FUTUREARCHIVE. AM recently visited Mary Iverson in her studio leading up to the open of her Sunk exhibition. With the work complete, it was time to take it to the masses at Davidson Galleries in Seattle. The large landscapes filled the space with nature, but the veil of over-population and consumerism permeated the scenes as etched lines and shipping containers. There are also some smaller mixed media pieces which tackled the climate change topic and the inevitable rise of the worlds oceans. To cap it off, […]
