Brazilian artist Herbert Baglione recently visited Mexico City for the opening of his newest solo show “Obituary” @ Fifty24Mx gallery. The new show  includes new paintings and installations by the artist. It is part of his continuing body of work he started at Contemporary Art Museum of Bogota in August of 2012, strongly inspired by death, human imperfection, and spiritual rebirth. NYC nonprofit art space Art in General currently has an excellent exhibition by Letha Wilson, entitled Landmarks and Monuments. The show consists mostly of Wilson’s photo-based sculptures—many of which were created and installed specifically for the site. In the center of the gallery, a floor-to-ceiling photograph of a moonrise curves around one of the space’s support columns. Joshua Liner Gallery recently welcomed the return of Oliver Vernon to New York City, with a new solo show entitled Renegade Trajectories. This fresh exhibition highlights Vernon’s cerebral and energetic visuals and pushes them to another level. Vernon utilized a variety of mediums and techniques to create this new collection of landscape abstraction, including acrylic on canvas or linen, as well as ink works on paper. After coming in as the runner-up for TIME magazine’s Person of the Year in 2011, things of come full circle for Ai Weiwei. The latest issue of the magazine features an illustration from the Chinese artist – activist with the title “The World According To China” overlaid on an oversized map of China compared to the globe created from old money symbols and flowers of prosperity. With Art Basel opening next week in Switzerland, the art world is gearing up for another round of festivities after barely recovering from the Hong Kong version. One of the associated shows that we are looking forward to is KAWS’ GISWIL at More Gallery. Along a massive wooden companions with “Pinocchio noses,” paintings from the American artist will also be on display.
