Last week when Aiko opened her dynamic show “Love Monster” (covered) at Joshua Liner Gallery, we noted a great installation created out of hand painted, stenciled and collaged spray paint and gallon paint cans. Since the doors opened, there have been numerous inquiries and requests, but these little gems were unfortunately not available for sale. Well, fans are now in luck because Aiko and the gallery have decided to make these hand created originals available. The price on these gems is a steal: the spray paint cans are $120 and […]
After a whirlwind tour of the nation over the past two years, Shepard Fairey is finally returning for an event in the City of Angels. This event will be a small showcase to illustrate some of Obey’s fine works. This event is presented in conjunction with Arkitip to coincide with the release of the latest issue (#51) of the magazine (featuring Shepard). As with all issues, a special limited edition “artist contribution” gift will be included with every magazine. Previous special collaborations with numerous high profile artists have quickly sold […]
It was only a matter of time… KAWS collectors must be in a frenzy this morning as news breaks of a 4-foot dissected companion. No details yet of when this delicious piece of vinyl drops, but we will be sure to let you know when we hear word.
Gary Baseman’s (interviewed) show “La Noche de La Fusion” opens this Saturday, May 2nd, at Corey Helford Gallery. AM stopped by his studio to learn more about this self-created festival celebrating a “night of fusion” of different cultures, the joys and bitterness of life and elements of the earth. For those who RSVP early enough, get ready for costumed ladies from Baseman’s world, performers, carnival games, large-scale sculptures and much more. Take a look at some of the paintings and plans for the show as […]
Bristol vandal Nick Walker returns to Black Rat Press in London on May 28th to unveil his latest show “A Sequence of Events.” If Walker’s past shows are any indication of what we can expect, fans have a nice treat in store for them. With creative pieces that consistently hold their own against work from that other relatively famous artist from Bristol, AM is looking forward to seeing what Walker dreams up this time. The opening will also mark the release and signing for Walker’s […]
Dalek’s (interviewed) two person show with Mike Giant, which we mentioned last week, opened last night in France at the Magda Danysz Gallery. Guillotine was on hand to snap some pics of of the exhibition. Check out the photo set after the jump…
José Parlá’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, “Reading Through Seeing,†(teased) opens on May 14th at Oos Botos Gallery in Hong Kong. In addition to his signature abstract calligraphic paintings and watercolors, the show also includes several of Parla’s beautiful Bizen-yaki pottery (featured) works. This latest series can be summed up in one word: stunning. The most color-rich and vibrant in recent memory, the works are most likely reflective of Parla’s positive expressions of Asia based on his “The New Grand Tour” cultural exchange […]
Artist, talented illustrator, and toy mogul James Jarvis recently released this amazing video he created with animator Richard Kenworthy in collaboration with Nike. Entitled “Onwards,” the video follows one of Jarvis’ famous characters on his adventure as he runs through an ever changing landscape. Jarvis answered some questions about this project in a short interview with us after the jump…
Last summer, the MOCA was sued by a disgruntled speculator, Clint Arthur, over the sale of some lithographic prints from Takashi Murakami’s retrospective. Arthur’s initial suit alleged that without proper documentation, the prints were just overpriced posters and the museum was misleading customers. The judge quickly dismissed the charges of fraud in the initial case. Also, the MOCA has offered Arthur a refund with interest (which he refused, of course) and a certificate of authenticity for all their customers who wanted one. Now, Arthur is […]
Our friends over at Nucleus Gallery just sent over some more preview pics from their street fighter tribute show opening this Saturday, April 25 including this gem from Luke Chueh entitled “‘Hyakuretsukyaku (Lightening Kick).” With many of us spending countless hours of our youth perfecting the moves for our favorite fighters, this show will definitely be nostalgic. Check out some more images from this exhibit featuring one of the best, if not the best video game ever – after the jump…
Buy low, sell high… guess Steve Lazarides sees the recent economic downturn as an opportunity to make some moves. The marquee urban art gallery from London has been busy in 2009. Last month Laz transformed their Greek street location into a shop with a more accessible price point and stocked it with plenty of quality artwork under £5,000. Now Lazarides is making his move on the high end – a luxurious new flagship gallery, “Rathbone Place,” will be opening its doors on May 15th. This newly renovated five story location […]
