Preview / Streets: “Art in the Streets” @ MOCA

The clock is ticking as the artists are putting the finishing touches on the Art in the Streets exhibition at the MOCA Los Angeles. Set to open to the public this Sunday, the show was in the final stages of preparation as AM stopped by today to check on the progress both indoors and out. After a quick lap indoors, we feel confident enough to tell you that this looks to be one the best show that we’ve ever seen. Bad news is that we can’t show you the mind boggling imagery indoors, but the good news is that we can bring you all the action outdoors at the Geffen Contemporary.

Street twin sensation Osgemeos got started transforming a booth at the front entrance while an amazing new mural is going up over the previously buffed Blu wall. This new piece is a collaboration between Futura, Lee Quinones, CERN, PUSH, RISKY and OG Abel. Cherry pickers and dragon cranes were active all day and street legend Futura invited us into the clouds to catch him at work.

Get a closer look at this amazing outdoor work among other things after the jump.

Futura, Lee Quinones & Fab 5 Freddie

Futura & Lee Quinones plans the next steps.

I guess we are caught on film... Hi Mom!

ESPO & Futura go for a well deserved coffee & smoke break.

ESPO gave us a tour and a look-see into his imagery.

As you may have heard, our friends at the MOCA are requesting that images be kept offline until the show officially opens. We got a first look at the mayhem occurring behinds the curtain and we can say that THIS SHOW IS A MONSTER! Be a little more patient as we think you’ll be very happy with the results once showtime rolls around.

Discuss this show here.

BLU Why is it not in this exhibition?
The art of the street would there be limits to freedom of expression?
The art market would he hard to integrate the work of producing meaning, beyond the agreed upon?

The episode in December 2010 at MOCA is quickly evacuated, I think …
