Eli Broad, who is arguably known as the most powerful man in Los Angeles, revealed this week where he will build his museum, which will house the spectacular Broad Collection. Representing San Francisco, the amazing David Choong Lee recently hauled down over 400 of his favorite works to LeBasee Projects in Culver City. The prolifically staged exhibition is as complete a representation of the artist’s skills as one imagines you can get. Openings: Retna Installation @ Rivera & Rivera

For the final exhibition in Rivera & Rivera’s South Park location, internationally-acclaimed, Los Angeles-based graffiti star Retna unveiled a ground to ceiling installation featuring his signature text-styled skills. The black and white work combined spray paint and fabric and covered the floor and 25-ft. high walls from top to bottom. To say that the San Diego Comic Con is a sensory overload would be an understatement. The top industry names go all out with their displays and booths promoting the latest films, comic books, and toys. Carmichael Gallery recently opened two shows at their Culver City gallery and although the artists use different mediums and subject matter, their work is both deeply rooted in the streets. M-City’s work was both mechanical in appearance and in physical attributes. It included works that included levers and pulleys. The machine-like works contained images of M-City’s futuristic black and white industrial factories and buildings that contain no signs of human life. Boogie’s work, in contrast, was all about the city and the people within it. […]

SDCC ’10: Frank Frazetta Conan Painting Sells for Record Price

Although this unfortunately occurred two months after the artist’s death, the above painting, “Conan the Destroyer”, just sold for $1.5 million – a record for a work by Frank Frazetta. The piece was sold by the estate in San Diego, during this year’s Comic Con. Franzetta was 82 when he died and was a legend among fantasy artists. He produced work for comic books, album covers, and movie posters, among others and has his own museum showing his work. In recent years, his children have […]
