POW! WOW! ’15 / Streets: Olek

Currently displayed prominently in front of the Honolulu Museum of Art and sponsored by Anthropologie is the latest evidence of Olek’s crocheting prowess. The iconic outrigger canoe utilized by the Hawaiian people was transformed by the New York-based Polish artist with her signature technique for POW! WOW! POW! WOW! ’15 / Openings: Thinkspace – “Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum Of Art School

Last night, POW! WOW! Hawaii kicked things off with a group show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum Of Art School (111 Victoria Street). Entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement, the exhibition featured an impressive and diverse roster or artists, each contributing a 12 x 12″ piece. Showing: Os Gemeos – “The Bunker” @ Museu Casa do Pontal

Earlier today, Museu Casa do Pontal in Rio de Janeiro unveiled the first ever permanent installation from the Brazilian street savants – Os Gemeos. Entitled The Bunker, the piece features a statue of their famous yellowskinned character enclosed within a concrete bunker. Upcoming: Os Gemeos @ Museu Casa do Pontal

On Saturday, the 31st of January, Museu Casa do Pontal will be inaugurating new work by Brazilian artists Os Gemeos. Created exclusively for this institution, the twins’ first permanent installation will be entitled The Bunker. The activities will begin in the afternoon at the Municipal Theatre, in Bandeirantes, Rio de Janeiro, with an open conversation with artists Gustavo & Otavio Pandolfo, mediated by curators Paul Portela and Angela Mascelani, followed by the installation reveal and a live concert by Siba. Tonight in Atlanta (6-10 pm), Jose Parla will be presenting new works at the High Museum of Art entitled Segmented Realities in conduction with Imagining New Worlds with Wifredo Lam and Fahamu Pecou. Pescou and Parla will respond to the work of Lam, providing their reactionary work based on his life and artistic Legacy. Showing: Futura – “Timewarp” @ Schusev State Museum of Architecture

Leonard McGurr, better known as Futura, recently opened a show at Schusev State Museum of Architecture in Moscow, exactly 30 years since his first visit to the Soviet Union. Back in 1984, the artist was photographed breakdancing on Moscow’s Red Square, which was a symbolic act during tense Cold War times.
