ARTWALK Culver City: Thinkspace Gallery

Last weekend, Culver City hosted their ARTWALK 2009 event with over thirty galleries throughout the area participating. Thinkspace Gallery, located in the Silver Lake district, got in on the action as well, opening a one day pop-up gallery on Washington Blvd. Fans packed the rear gallery area throughout the day to see the live-painting demonstration by Asylm, Anthony Clarkson, Mear One, Michael Alvarez, Michael Pukac, Nathan DeYoung and Zoso. Bruce LaBruce’s “Untitled Hardcore Zombie Project” at Peres Projects in Culver City is one of those shows that makes you do a complete double take the moment you walk in the door. Describing himself not as a pornographer but “an artist who works in porn,” LaBruce’s specialty is his unique twist on the horror genre, with his inclusion of fanatical groups, zombies and gay sex. Openings: Charming Baker “The Meaning of Everything” London Exhibition

Last night was the preview opening of Charming Baker’s latest pop-up show “The Meaning of Everything” in London (previewed). The building was filled with excitement as Charming exhibited his latest body of work which showcases his mastery of abstract environments, loose strokes and detailed backgrounds with creative textures. Tim Biskup’s â€œThe Mystic Chords of Memoryâ€ at Iguapop Gallery opened recently in Barcelona.Â Based on the opening photos as well as the preview we posted earlier, it looks like for this body of work, Biskup is mixing his newer pixelated style with some imagery from the past with a dash of new vibrant colors.Â Take a look at some pics from the show after the jump…

Last Saturday, the Joshua Liner Gallery hosted the opening of shows by two talented painters, Mike Davis and Heidi Taillefer. Although the two are seemingly very different, the pairing of Davis and Taillefer begins to make perfect sense once one sees the work together. Both artists work in oil, are very technically proficient and could be labeled “pop-surrealists.”Â But beyond that, both incorporate their surrealist imagery within more classical styles of painting. The “Whole in the Wall” group show at Helenbeck Gallery opened to an excited New York crowd this past Thursday. Openings: “Quiet Storm” @ G1988 LA

“Quiet Storm” opened this past Tuesday in Los Angeles at Gallery 1988. The four person show features new work from Krista Huot (Interviewed), Scott Campbell, ghost patrol and Roland Tamayo.
