Studio Visit / Preview: Brett Amory – “Waiting 101″ @ Lazarides (Newcastle)

A few Sundays ago, AM decided to swing by Brett Amory’s Oakland studio while he was preparing for his upcoming Lazarides solo entitled Waiting 101 at the Newcastle location. This show marks an evolution in his creative process, as he now carries his iPhone everywhere he goes and is able to immediately capture a moment whenever he feels inspired (whereas before, it would take months to compile images to use for his work). One thing we noticed was that all of the work for the [...]

Openings: “Reality Bites” @ Post No Bills

Last week, Post No Bills held their third exhibition thus far entitled Reality Bites. The show centered around the work of various artists including Borf, Brett Amory, Sage Vaughn, Kelsey Brookes, Mark Jenkins, Morley, and Ravi Zupa who supplied new limited edition prints as well as hand finished multiples. Among some of the night’s highlights, Shark (seen previously here) by Brookes was one which clearly got the attention of the visitors. Featuring the use of neon-colored lines and an array of colors, the piece was [...]

Openings: Brett Amory – “White Light” @ Anno Domini

Bay Area-based Brett Amory (interviewed) unveiled his latest paintings in his Waiting series for his exhibition, White Light at Anno Domini in San Jose, CA (previewed) on Saturday night. The Waiting series features anonymous snapshots in an urban environment, which is a commentary on an individuals’ seemingly impossible task of trying to find existence in society in which they are so detached. The work in White Light aims to express a sense of freedom and that we are able to choose whether we exist through [...]

Previews: Brett Amory – “White Light” @ Anno Domini

This Saturday, Brett Amory (interviewed) will be the opening a fresh show at San Jose’s Anno Domini gallery. The exhibition entitled White Light will be the complementary body of work to our recently covered Dark Light paintings shown at  Jonathan LeVine in July. From the images Brett sent us, you can see he has put together a diurnal continuation of his Waiting series. Check out a preview of the paintings and a video after the jump.

Absolut Blank

Jeremy Fish (featured), who just had a solo show in New York (covered), was also recently one of the artists involved with the Abolut Blank project. The vodka brand from Sweden has long been associated with artist collaborations, some of which we have feature before (Asbestos, Steve “ESPO” Powers, Chiho Aoshima) here on AM. Other artists who participated include David Bray, Dave Kinsey, Brett Amory, Sam Flores, and Fernando Chamarelli. Take a look at their creations as well as a video after the jump…

Openings: Brett Amory – “Dark Light” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

AM recently attended the opening of Brett Amory’s (interviewed) latest NY solo Dark Light (previewed) at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. This new series of paintings is a departure from Brett’s daytime series as the subjects are based in the still of night. However, Brett transitions his subjects and urban environments effortlessly into the emptiness of nocturnal darkness. We felt the lost and lonely feelings which we usually experienced in Brett’s works, but with the sun taken away, it felt even a little eerie as desolation wrapped around his signature [...]

Preview: Brett Amory – “Dark Light” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

We last caught up with Brett Amory (interviewed) while he was in London for his show at the Lazarides-run Outsiders Gallery in January. Time goes by quick as he’s already set to open his newest solo, Dark Light, at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery on June 30th. They recently posted up some photos of Brett getting ready for the big New York show that will give you some idea of what to expect.

Openings: Brett Amory – ‘Intentional Abstractions’ @ Outsiders Gallery

Brett Amory (interviewed) made his UK debut with style last week and AM went along to the opening of Intentional Abstractions to see his emotive work for ourselves. The Lazarides-run Outsiders Gallery has put on some great shows since the concept of this small gallery space was refocused last year. This latest exhibit shows further commitment to bringing an exciting roster of emerging art talent to its London exhibition space. We’ve been admirers of Brett’s work for a while, but it was good to see [...]

Openings: “There It Is” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last weekend, the “There It Is” group exhibition opened at the Thinkspace Gallery featuring Seth Armstrong, Brett Amory (interviewed), and Adam Caldwell. The showing of young talent from the Culver City gallery was well attended and points to a bright future for each artist.  Take a look Armstrong’s theatrical narratives, Amory’s commuter transit paintings, and Caldwell’s mix of eclectic imagery after the jump…
