Openings: Burning Candy – “A Fist Full of Paint” @ Tony’s (London)

Last week, AM went along to the opening night at Tony’s, London, to grab some pics and get a feel of East London’s Burning Candy exhibition A Fist full of Paint.  Knowing the exterior had been brilliantly tagged with a paint filled fire extinguisher, it was good to see the interior had been done in the same style. The floor and the walls had all been touched by the western style showdown paint fight that had taken place. This was recreated throughout the night [...]

Streets: London Instagram Roundup

The week started off well for AM with a new piece by street artist Mobstr making an appearance on Bethnel Green Road. This massive white pasteup can be seen from a distance, causing anyone who passes to stop in their tracks. Titled Visual Pollution, the letters have been cut out so the original advert can be seen through. Also, Burning Candy member Dscreet, painted a church with one of his well known owls over the top of an original mural of Jesus. Dscreet’s owl takes on [...]

Streets: London Instagram Roundup

I have been kindly asked by the nice guys here at AM if I would like to submit a weekly street art article from my Instagram feed. Without hesitation I accepted… For those of you who haven’t heard about Instagram, it’s an app on the iPhone where you can upload and share pictures, so all photos are taken with the iPhone. I mainly focus on the streets of Shoreditch and areas of Hackney, London, taking photographs of new and old streetart. So, here goes, I [...]

Studio Visit: Lucas Price

Lucas Price seems to be an artist in an ever changing state of evolution. His last major UK solo show Jesus Help Me Find My Proper Place suggested a level of confusion within its title – the work exhibited was produced in a variety of styles in an almost perfect allegory for his life as a fine artist under his own name, and also his street bombing alter ego of Cyclops. The work in the accomplished exhibition suggested that the artist had been in a [...]

Preview: Sweet Toof – ‘Having A Dig’ @ Arch 402 Gallery, London

Here’s something to get your gums around… Everyone’s favourite purveyor of eye-candy Sweet Toof, one of the most prolific street artists in London, is bringing a selection of new paintings to London’s Arch 402 Gallery next week. He’s of course a classically trained fine artist, and the Royal Academy trained painter is well versed in working fast and dirty outdoors as the man who over the last couple of years put the ‘candy’ into the Burning Candy crew. Having A Dig brings the more refined [...]

Releases: Burning Candy Boxset / Co-Produce the “Dots” Movie

Ever dream of being a movie producer? Well, now’s your chance! The Burning Candy crew – Cept, Cyclops, Dscreet, Gold Peg, LLB, Mighty Mo, Rowdy (interviewed), SweetToof and James Jessop are making a film called “Dots”, which follows each of the artists on their travels around the world as they visit the cultures they have found inspiration from. In order to fund the film, BC have kept it strictly DIY, and are releasing a limited edition box-set of nine prints. Each box-set gives the owner a [...]

Interviews: Rowdy – The Rooftop Burner Fund Auction

AM heard some sad news a couple of weeks ago that Burning Candy member Rowdy lost just about everything he owned in a fire that destroyed his home and painting studio. Rowdy had popped out of his flat in Bristol for a short time only to return and find the building engulfed in flames. In a moment, everything was gone – even one of his most prized possessions, this piece of sartorial elegance, the psychedelic church sweater seen in the picture above sent onto us [...]
