Openings: Steve Powers, Greg Gossel & Greg Lamarche – “Get Over It” @ Show & Tell Gallery

Steve Powers, Greg Gossel (interviewed) and Greg Lamarche gave our neighbors up North a taste of their respective typographical style, comic book and pop culture inspired imagery and a bit of NYC graffiti meets fine art, with their group show “Get Over It” at Toronto’s Show & Tell Gallery. With a strong body of work from all three artists, this show pleased old fans and undoubtedly resulted in creating some new ones as well. See all the photos from the opening after the jump.

Openings: Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONG x Nike Stages Exhibition @ Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin

Lance Armstrong and Nike Sportswear’s “Stages” exhibition (previewed here and here) opened up with an amazing roster of artists. Openings: The Date Farmers – “Rope Gold Chain” @ Andenken Gallery

AM recently featured the insane “A Volta” music video collaboration between N.A.S.A. and The Date Farmers and last weekend, the Cochella-based Date Farmers made a trip out to Andenken Gallery in Colorado for their solo “Rope Gold Chain,” bringing their unique blend of acrylic and mixed-media objects on found materials with them. Their unconventional canvases serve as the perfect medium for the raw and uncut style of this duo and echos their message of finding beauty in the most unexpected places. See the photos from the […]

Openings: Catherine Brooks & Hannah Stouffer @ Thinkspace

Opening along side the fantastic show from Stella Im Hultberg last Friday at Thinkspace were new works from Catherine Brooks (above) & Hannah Stouffer.  Brooks lit up the back room with her vivacious presence, impressing us with her detailed paintings and large-scale handcut wood assemblage.  Take a look at all Brooks’ work after the jump as well as Stouffer’s intricate compositions that had to be seen in person to be fully appreciated…

Preview: “Momentum” @ Nucleus Gallery

An interesting mix of artists are exhibiting together tomorrow night at the Nucleus Gallery, including Tiffany Bozic (above), Chigi, In Kyung Lim, Tessar Lo, Veronique Meignaud, and Brooks Salzwedel.  Of particular interest to us is seeing how the work of Bozic and Lo has progressed since their last shows at Fecal Face Gallery (covered) and LeBasse Projects (covered) respectively.  Our friend Commandax wrote up a nice article about Lo’s abstract evolution here. More preview images after the jump for this group show.

Studio Visits/Interviews: Jason Thielke – “New Works” @ David B. Smith Gallery

On our recent trip to Denver to see Josh Keyes’ “Sprout” exhibition, AM met with Jason Thielke, who’s latest solo show entitled simply “New Works” opens this Friday, July 17th at the new downtown location of the David B. Smith Gallery. We’ve been interested in Thielke’s work for a while now, and in particular his technique utilizing a method he calls gel transfer, which results in an aesthetic delight of super-clean vector-like line work. Recently, he has changed things up a bit and is now […]
