Previews: Date Farmers – “Shit Ain’t Funny” @ Ace Gallery

Returning to the massive Ace Gallery showspace in Beverly Hills after a successful solo there in 2010 (covered), the Date Farmers will be opening another exhibition tonight entitled Shit Ain’t Funny. Hailing out of the Coachella Valley, the two collaborative artists whose real names are Armando Lerma and Carlos Ramirez will be presenting works that deal with social and political issues of the working class. The themes explored are near and dear to their hearts, not surprising after considering the blue-collar community where they are based. They […]

Videos / Upcoming: Coachella Walls

Today, Cesar Chavez Day, the Date Farmers are officially announcing the start of an annual Coachella Walls event. Organized in honor of the labor leader and civil rights activist as well as the anonymous farm worker, the local artistic duo hope to bring attention to the poor community with this mural project. Despite the name of the Coachella music festival set to open soon, the tax revenue goes to the city of Indio with the actual city of Coachella remaining a forgotten area. Held in downtown Coachella’s historic Pueblo Viejo, the […]

Openings: ‘Marks & Stencils’ pop-up gallery, London

Last Thursday, AM was in London’s Soho district to attend the opening of Marks & Stencils: the Pictures On Walls Christmas season pop-up gallery exhibition, which in previous years has gone by the name of Santa’s Ghetto. No doubt this was partly assisted by the deceptively strong cocktails being served, which led us to yet again repeat our mistake of equating “sweet drink” with “harmless drink”. But that’s another story. The show harbours a selection of prints […]
