Benefits: RxArt 2011 Gala

AM recently attended the annual RxArt benefit gala. The non-profit organization dedicated to placing original fine art (see Jeff Koons) in patient and examination rooms of hospitals have long garnered the staunch support from some other big names in art such as Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, Yoshitomo Nara, Marilyn Minter and Ed Ruscha. This year the silent auction was once again filled with impressive original works from notables such as Nate Lowman, José Parlá, Matthew Brannon, Aurel Schmidt, Terry Richardson, Ed Templeton, Tim Barber, Robert [...]

Openings: Barry McGee @ Stuart Shave/Modern Art, London

AM has been keeping a watchful eye on Continental European shows featuring works by Barry McGee. Whenever the cashflow gods have been on our side, we’ve booked the necessary flights or trains to attend as well. This was the case with the 2010 joint show with Danish artist HuskMitNavn at A.L.I.C.E. Gallery in Brussels, and the 2009 three-man show (which also included Ed Templeton and Raymond Pettibon) curated by Aaron Rose at Berlin’s Circleculture Gallery. However, the last time McGee exhibited in the UK was [...]

Another of the many temporary Los Angeles gallery transplants with an impressive booth at Art Basel Miami Beach was Roberts & Tilton (teased). Intriguing work in an array of mediums from Kehinde Wiley, Ed Templeton, Titus Kaphar, Noah Davis, Jimmy Baker, Ai Yamaguchi, Adam Pendleton and Ellen De Meutter were presented in striking fashion. Much like with Ratio 3 (covered), a large chunk of real estate was set aside for Barry McGee to unleash another of his dynamic cluster installations. All told, a solid presentation [...]
