Openings: Herakut – “Too High To Heal” @ Metro Gallery

Earlier this month, we shared some photos with you of the latest installation of The Giant Storybook Project from Herakut on the streets of Melbourne. The German duo were also in town for their latest solo show at the Metro Gallery entitled Too High To Heal featuring their signature mix of abstract and photorealistic painting. Embellishments that accompanied the work spilled onto the walls of the showspace, leading to a finished feel to the exhbition. Photo credit: Dean Sunshine. Discuss Herakut here.

Murals of Lily, Jay, two giants, and their adventures have already hit the walls in Kentucky, Germany, Montreal, Toronto, Rochester, and San Francisco. We’ll be taking a closer look at this project (scheduled to go through 2013) as it [...]

Video: When Lucent Met Herakut…

Earlier this year, German graff duo Herakut teamed up with Lucent Dossier (covered)  to bring a unique show which was both part live painting, part acrobatic extravaganza. Many fans of both Herakut and Lucent missed out on the performance since it only played twice in front of an audience. However, here we have a short documentary directed by theonepointeight, which shows a rare behind the scenes look into the making of the show as well as the final performances. Looks can be a bit deceiving [...]

REYES for Detroit Beautification Project. Via Revok.

Streets: World Roundup (May 7 – May 13)

For our summary of walls this week, we have for you as our featured wall – REYES in Detroit. The motor city has become one of the hotspots for street activity recently as the tanking economy has ironically led to more abandoned buildings facilitating the rise of public art. Also, the Detroit Beautification Project (first mentioned here) has been bringing in artists from all over to get up around town. We’ll have a summary on the project soon (also see Sever’s piece) but for now [...]
