Morgan Spurlock is an internationally known director, producer, and writer famous for such documentaries as Super Size Me, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, and the recently released Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope. Opening on April 28 will be the debut of his first curated art exhibition at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City.  Although he’s one busy man, Arrested Motion had the fortunate opportunity to catch up with him and discuss his interest in collecting art, his future in performance art, and his previous quest [...]

Showing: Jonathan Yeo – “You’re Only Young Twice” @ Lazarides

Earlier this month, Lazarides hosted the opening of Jonathan Yeo’s solo exhibition You’re Only Young Twice. The new paintings focused on the phenomena of plastic surgery with imagery of patients being marked preoperatively, scenes from the operation, as well as before and after comparison shots. Rendered beautifully in photorealistic and abstract techniques, the new body of work once again shows off the technical skills as well as wit of the British artist. Rounding out the showing at Rathbone Place were some of his older work [...]

Openings: Lazarides Minotaur Event @ The Old Vic Tunnels

A couple nights ago, the Minotaur event put on by Lazarides kicked off at the The Old Vic Tunnels, also the site of 2010′s Hell’s Half Acre exhibition. This time around, the theme was an old Greek legend and depending on your choice for price of admission, dining was included from top Michelin-starred chefs. Of course for us, the art was the focus of the night including offerings from Stanley Donwood, Jonathan Yeo, Antony Micallef, Conor Harrington, Doug Foster, 3D, Ian Francis, ATMA, Michael Najjar [...]

Videos / Teaser: Lazarides Minotaur Event @ The Old Vic Tunnels

Perhaps influenced by the pop-up restaurant The Tree House (see video above) in Frankfurt for which he presumably curated the artwork for, Lazarides will be bringing the PRET A DINER concept in for his newest project in London. During Frieze and the London Restaurant Festival, from October 10 – 25, the gallery will be organizing a show and pop-up fine dining experience in The Old Vic Tunnels, site of 2010′s Hell’s Half Acre exhibition. Preparing the food will be top Michelin-starred chefs Nuno Mendes (Viajante, London), [...]

It was clear from the large number of attendees that Steve Lazarides’ new California venture continues a successful run especially after coming off the highly touted Faile show. This [...]

Videos: Jonathan Yeo – “Porn in the USA”

Remember back in July of last year, when Jonathan Yeo brought his series of works and portraits created from collaged pornography to Beverly Hills. It was part of a series of shows put on by Steve Lazarides in a temporary gallery and was entitled “Porn in the USA” (covered). Apparently, they were filming the whole time.  Take a look above as Yeo and Lazarides are interviewed – all with the backdrop of some nice behind-the-scenes footage.

Showing: Lazarides’ “Hell’s Half Acre” at the Leake Street Tunnels

One of the most notable stops in our hectic journey through London was Lazarides’ “Hell’s Half Acre” group exhibition. The pop-up show was located in the eerie tunnels of Leake Street (AKA the Old Vic Tunnels where the Cans Festival was held). The dark catacombs were the perfect setting to host this amazing group show that featured signature works from artists such as Ian Francis, David Choe, Conor Harrington, Antony Micallef and Jonathan Yeo. One of the stand out pieces from the show was Paul [...]

Teaser: Lazarides – “Hell’s Half Acre” @ The Old Vic Tunnel

Opening next Tuesday, Hell’s Half Acre, is a unique concept show organized by London-based Lazarides around the theme of Dante’s “Inferno”, interpreted as “hell” in the influential author’s Italian tongue. Fittingly hosted deep within the underground catacombs known as The Old Vic Tunnels, the impressive roster of artists – including such LAZ favorites as Vhils, Antony Micallef, Ian Francis and David Choe, just to name a few – has been tasked with interpreting the nine circles of hell as postulated within the epic 14th-century poem [...]

Openings: Jonathan Yeo – “Porn in the USA” @ Lazarides (Bevery Hills)

The lights were dimmed, the walls were painted black, and the spotlights were perfectly positioned.  It was a appropriately romantic mood for some naughty pictures, courtesy of Jonathan Yeo and Lazarides, Beverly Hills. The 8,000 square foot temporary gallery hosted its 3rd show, one that was a totally unique experience from the previous two. While David Choe, JR, Conor Harrington and crew brought the urban streets inside, Yeo brought the high class brothel co-inhabited by world famous celebrities and nude beauties into the cavernous Beverly [...]
