Streets: Shepard Fairey, D*Face, and Logan Hicks for T&J Art Walk (Oslo) Part II

After mentioning Faile’s (featured) wall for the T&J Art Walk (and the fun they had with a ping pong table) earlier in the month in an Overtime article, we thought it was time for an update. The event in Oslo was put on in  support of the Human Rights Watch (HRW) and to allow memorial murals honoring the victims of the horrific terror attack of July 22. This will all culminate with an art show with proceeds to benefit the HRW (but you can also donate here). You can [...]

Previews: Charming Baker — ‘Every Thing Must Go’ @ Mercer Street Studios, London

Charming Baker is back in London with a new pop-up exhibition that previews this evening at Mercer Street Studios (16 Mercer Street), an attractive space in Covent Garden. AM had a nose around the venue during the final preparations to check out Baker’s recent canvases, prints, as well as sculptures — a medium we haven’t associated with him before. All the canvases have already pre-sold, which may help to explain why the artist appeared so relaxed on the eve of his show. Every Thing Must [...]

Openings: Vandalog & M.A.N.Y – “Up Close & Personal”

AM recently attended a group exhibition (previewed) held by Vandalog and M.A.N.Y. in New York. The show Up Close & Personal was unique in the sense that it was not held outdoors or in a gallery, but in an actual apartment on the Upper West Side. The show was limited to viewing for less than a week, but less is more as art fans were escorted in small groups for an intimate viewing session of small works by Aiko, Chris Stain, Elbowtoe, Gaia, How & [...]

Openings: Logan Hicks – “Pretty Ugly” @ Opera Gallery (NY)

Logan Hicks (interviewed) debuted his latest show Pretty Ugly (previewed) last week at the Opera Gallery in New York. The new body of work was created over the past six months and featured some of his largest indoor pieces to date. While there, we noticed that Logan was working with various compositions and subjects that normally isn’t seen in his work. To compliment his detailed environmental stencil pieces, he also created portrait works and played with colors or lack thereof. What we enjoyed especially was [...]

Tonight in New York, June 2nd, stencil specialist Logan Hicks (interviewed) will be opening his show Pretty Ugly at the Opera Gallery. Almost a year since we witnessed his last solo in Paris, the bearded one has a whole intricate new body of work prepared for fans in his home city. Featuring some of his largest pieces to date, he has pushed himself creatively, mentally, and has been taken to the limits of his technique for six months straight, so we will be looking forward [...]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Wynwood Walls

Last year, Wynwood Walls started out as an ambitious project to revive and reclaim the worndown Wynwood Arts District with art. This year, Tony Goldman upped the ante by expanding the project space with new works and installations by Ryan McGinness, Invader, Kenny Scharf, Ron English (featured), Jeff Soto’s (featured), Logan Hicks (interviewed), Friends With You and Shepard Fairey. In addition, a restaurant and a project gallery space were also created on-site to keep onlookers submerged in the arts. After checking out the space during [...]

Openings: Electric Windows

Is that Ron English’s Ronald McDonald and camouflaged deer peeking out at us?  It’s just some of the sights seen at this year’s “Electric Windows”, an annual art and music festival that has already going on three years.  This year’s rendition officially opened last weekend in Beacon, New York with about 30 artists travelling to the small town about an hour north of New York City to do some live painting as well as hopefully bring some life and a fresh look some targeted buildings [...]

Behind the Scenes: Logan Hicks @ Galerie Itinerrance

Logan Hicks (interviewed) recently opened his solo show in Paris with the good people at Galerie Itinerrance, who were nice enough to send over some behind the scenes pics leading up to the opening. Not only is Logan known as one of the most skillful stencil artists out there, but he is also behind alot of the street events out there as an organizer, promoter, and all around glue guy in the scene – not to mention the best beard in the business. More pics [...]
