Preview: “Streets of the World” @ Opera Gallery (NY)

Tomorrow night (May 11th), if you are in New York, you may want to head over for the public opening of Streets of the World, a rare street art show that includes such diverse and long list of participants. As mentioned in our previous look at the streets of Oslo, the T&J Art Walk took the art work indoors for an impressive charity exhibition that opened this past weekend. With sale proceeds benefiting the Human Rights Watch’s (HRW) work, Streets artists such as Faile, Shepard Fairey, Logan Hicks, D*Face, The London Police, Will Barras, Flying Fortress and more; donated their fine art for a great cause. After mentioning Faile’s (featured) wall for the T&J Art Walk (and the fun they had with a ping pong table) earlier in the month in an Overtime article, we thought it was time for an update. Charming Baker is back in London with a new pop-up exhibition that previews this evening at Mercer Street Studios (16 Mercer Street), an attractive space in Covent Garden. AM recently attended a group exhibition (previewed) held by Vandalog and M.A.N.Y. in New York. The show Up Close & Personal was unique in the sense that it was not held outdoors or in a gallery, but in an actual apartment on the Upper West Side. Logan Hicks (interviewed) debuted his latest show Pretty Ugly (previewed) last week at the Opera Gallery in New York. The new body of work was created over the past six months and featured some of his largest indoor pieces to date. Last year, Wynwood Walls started out as an ambitious project to revive and reclaim the worndown Wynwood Arts District with art. Logan Hicks (interviewed) recently opened his solo show in Paris with the good people at Galerie Itinerrance, who were nice enough to send over some behind the scenes pics leading up to the opening. Not only is Logan known as one of the most skillful stencil artists out there, but he is also behind alot of the street events out there as an organizer, promoter, and all around glue guy in the scene – not to mention the best beard in the business.
