Showing: “Conjoined II” @ Copro Gallery

Conjoined II, a followup to last year’s successful debut as a group show, recently opened at the Copro Gallery in Santa Monica. Once again, Chet Zar’s (interviewed) was tapped to bring together a selection of sculptural work from his friends and peers, which mostly focused on objects of the bizarre, fantastic, and surreal. Perhaps the pieces that received the most attention were these two eerie 3D renderings by Kevin Kirkpatrick of Beavis and Butt-head. More photos by Richard Brooks for Arrested Motion after the jump…

Over the weekend, the Affordable Art Fair opened Los Angeles including a booth for one of the galleries exhibiting work – Thinkspace Gallery. The Culver City showspace presented work from a talented core of artists which they have worked with in the past and will certainly continue to do so in the future including Dabs Myla, Brian Viveros, Matt Doust, Linnea Strid, David Cooley, and Audrey Kawasaki to name a few. Streets: Cyrcle. – “Winter” (Los Angeles)

Last time we saw the Cyrcle. crew working the streets, they created a large scale mural in Culver City (covered), the same spot occupied by such street art luminaries such as Herakut, David Flores and recently Dabs Myla. Over the weekend, Corey Helford presented new work by artist Eric Joyner (interviewed). The exhibition featured a collection of paintings that blended the artist’s attraction to classic sci-fi motifs with a sense of the mundane which often referenced the use of donuts. Other competing factors in his visual imagery include the use of landscapes and the natural environment. Earlier this month, the Buckwild Gallery brought 7th letter member EVOL and Fame City writer TEAL together for a special event highlighting their different styles and their own brand of art. Last Friday night, the OHWOW Gallery in Los Angeles hosted the opening for Daniel Arsham’s the fall, the ball, and the wall. Displaying a deep interest in architecture and its relationship to the natural world, the NY-based artist’s collection of pieces for this showing can be grouped into three categories – structural interventions featuring his signature melting or dripping creations, a series of canvas works depicting buildings with elements that spell out words, and a hanging cloud of tinted spheres. Openings: “Obey Your Master: A Metallica Tribute” @ Exhibit A

Last Friday, Exhibit A opened up its gallery doors to a multitude of artists all paying tribute to the legendary heavy metal band Metallica. Titled Obey Your Master, the exhibit featured artists such as Shepard Fairey, Travis Louie, David Stoupakis, Nicola Verlato, Brian Viveros, and Richard Villa III just to name a few. Teaser: Amy Sol – “Numina” @ Corey Helford Gallery

It has been over a year since Amy Sol (interviewed) showed at Corey Helford Gallery where she will be returning for a solo coming up in March. This newest painting, entitled Bonfire, sees the Las Vegas-based painter continuing to hone in on a more on her central characters as well as develop more depth to her works, some of which we saw first hand at a recent group show in Los Angeles. Not too long ago, the collaboration between artists El Mac and Augustine Kofie (featured) produced a spectacular mural that took place at the KROQ studios in Los Angeles, California (covered).
