Openings: “Juxtapoz Turns 18″ @ Copro Gallery

Last weekend in Santa Monica, Juxtapoz celebrated 18 years of sharing art with the masses with a group exhibition at the Copro Gallery. Featuring work from a plethora of creatives that have graced their pages and website through the years – from emerging artists to established giants including Robert Williams, Todd Schorr, Mark Ryden, Camille Rose Garcia, and more. For those Mark Ryden fans out there who missed the first colorways of the YHWH figure (pink, black, white), here is your shot at three other versions of perhaps his vision of god. This Saturday night, March 24th, the Copro Gallery in Santa Monica will play host to a group exhibition celebrating 18 years of Juxtapoz goodness.  An excellent lineup of artists have submitted work to pay their respects to the counter-culture magazine that has revolutionized the art scene including Marion Peck, Mark Ryden, Andrew Schoultz, Souther Salazar, Anthony Ausgang, Tiffany Bozic, Candice Tripp, SHAG and many more. Book Signing: Mark Ryden @ Taschen Books

Last week in Los Angeles at Taschen Books,  Mark Ryden held a signing for his comprehensive publication – Pinxit. As we witnessed during the Art Basel Miami release party (here), this is the “bible” for collectors of the renowned low brow artist’s work as its 366 pages Ryden’s 20 year career and art like no other book can. Tonight in Los Angeles at Taschen, fans of Mark Ryden will have a chance to check out his newest book in person as well as get it signed by the man himself. The impressive publication, Pinxit, is a comprehensive 366 page survey of Ryden’s 20 year career and is currently available as the Collector’s Edition of 1,000 ($1000). Basel Week Miami ’11: Mark Ryden x Taschen “Pinxit” Party

Last night, AM attended the release party for Mark Ryden x Taschen Books. The Basel Week event was held at the Soho House Miami and gave us a first look at their newly released book Pinxit which contains a comprehensive survey of Mr. Ryden’s illustrious 20 year career (previewed here). Mark’s peers & friends from all over the nation came in droves to help him celebrate at this great event. Check out more after the jump.

Today marks the release by Taschen of Mark Ryden’s Pinxit (the title is a playful references to both the preponderance of pink in his work and the Latin word meaning “he painted this,” which artists like Ingres and Rubens once appended after their signatures according to Erratic Phenomena). Basel Week Miami ’11: Art Basel – First Look (Part II)

With so much eye candy at the main fair, we had to split out photos into two helpings. Headlining this second set are these clusters from Bay Area legend Barry McGee at the Cheim & Read booth featuring some abstract representations of spray cans arranged in a new way with some novel patterns. Other strong pieces seen were a unique piece from Mark Ryden utilizing a new technique, an oil from Lisa Yuskavage, various shiny objects from Anish Kapoor, and much more. See it all [...]

Basel Week Miami ’11: Mark Ryden Preview

Another reason to hit up the major art fairs is the opportunities to see the new gems from Mark Ryden in person. For this year’s Miami rendition of Art Basel, the lowbrow painter will be bringing at least two originals with him to the party - Main Street USA (seen above) for the Michael Kohn booth (Booth K10) and Pinxit Jajo (seen after the jump) for the Paul Kasmin booth (Booth B14).

Preview: “La Luz de Jesus 25″ Part II

After hosting the first part of their 25th anniversary group show last month, La Luz De Jesus makes room for the opening of round two of the festivities on November 4th.
