Upcoming: Mark Ryden x American Ballet Theatre – “Whipped Cream”

With his major retrospective still showing in Spain (covered), Mark Ryden (interviewed) has unveiled a side project he has been working on for quite some time. For the past year, the American artist has been busy designing the costumes and sets for a new ballet called Whipped Cream by renowned choreographer Alexei Ratmansky for the American Ballet Theater. Last week, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga (CAC Malaga) in Spain hosted the first museum retrospective from Mark Ryden (interviewed) entitled Cámara de las Maryville. For those who have seen the exhibition, it certainly has been a House of Wonders with the plethora of small and large-format canvases, drawings, dioramas and sculptures on display for all to enjoy. Upcoming: Mark Ryden – “Cámara de las Maravilla” @ CAC Malaga

On December 16th, Mark Ryden (interviewed) will be opening a major exhibition at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga (CAC Malaga) entitled Cámara de las Maravilla. (for which a replica of the invitation was recently release as a print) Translated as House of Wonders, the exhibition will be the first museum retrospective in Europe for the man known as one of the giants in the Lowbrow art movement. Releases: Mark Ryden – “Queen Bee” Invitation & Print

Tomorrow morning (November 21st) at 8am PST, Porterhouse will be releasing two editions from Mark Ryden (interviewed) featuring the image from his Queen Bee painting. The first one (seen above) is a replica of the announcement for his upcoming Cámara de las Maravillas exhibition at the Contemporary Art Center of Málaga in Spain. Featuring a laser-cut frame adorned with gold highlights, the edition is sized at 11″ x 7-1/4″, produced in a run of 200, and will cost $100. Upcoming: Mark Ryden – “Diversiform” @ Hidari Zingaro

On October 15th, Mark Ryden (interviewed) will be opening a show at Hidari Zingaro, the gallery of Takashi Murakami who has been a long time fan of his work. Diversiform will only be an exhibition of rare editions from the veteran of the lowbrow movement, but will give fans in Tokyo a rare opportunity to see his imagery in person. Preview: “Cat Art Show 2” @ Think Tank Gallery

From March 24-27, shortly after closing their cake-themed installation and special programing (covered), Think Tank Gallery in Los Angeles will be hosting the sequel group exhibition to 2014’s Cat Art Show. Over 70 artists including Mark Ryden, Marion Peck, C215, Adam Wallacavage, Tim Biskup, Kozyndan, Luke Chueh, Brandi Milne, Natalia Fabia, Travis Lampe, Cyrcle., Jean Pierre Arboleda (seen above) and Edwin Ushiro will be contributing pieces inspired by their feline friends.
