Openings: Urban Legends @ L.A. Mart Design Center

Last weekend at the L.A. Mart Design Center, the Urban Legends auction and exhibition opened their doors to the public. With a series of largescale pieces, murals, photographs, and installations, artists around the world like Chor Boogie, Kofie, Mear One, Shark Toof, Cern, Estria, Martha Cooper, Sand One, Herakut, SANER, Estevan Oriol, Eriberto Oriol, Chaz Bojorquez, RETNA, Andrew Hem, and more were invited to put their work on display. Last month, we brought you the trailer for Here Comes The Neighborhood, a new video series focusing on Wynwood Arts District in Miami. Releases: Shepard Fairey x COPE x Martha Cooper Print

Reuniting three major players from the Art in the Streets exhibition, this latest release from OBEY Giant features the photography of Martha Cooper (interviewed) of a wall with Shepard Fairey (featured) and COPE’s work on it, all distilled through Shep’s distinctive filter.  The 18 x 24″ signed screen print will be released today, April 21st, online at a random time with a limited run of 450 and priced at $60 for those interested. Openings: “Martha Cooper : Remix” @ Carmichael Gallery

Saturday night, Martha Cooper (interviewed) launched a special group exhibition at LA’s Carmichael Gallery. If the upcoming Art In The Streets Exhibition at the MOCA is this year’s Superbowl for street & urban art, then consider this show the preceding playoffs. Many of the players in the monster retrospective made an appearance to pay homage to the godmother of street art photography. Basel Week Miami ’10: “The Sticker Wall” @ Wynwood Walls

We recently showed you images of Shepard Fairey down in Miami installing his mural inside this year’s Wynwood Walls cafe (covered). Well, more images have just surfaced from the Wynwood Walls project, courtesy of legendary street photographer Martha Cooper.
