So, observant street art fans in New York must have noticed by now that Shepard Fairey’s much vandalized “These Parties Disgust Me” mural (done in conjunction with his “May Day” show at Deitch) has been covered with the scaffolding below rebuilt. Although there has been some speculation the preserved Os Gemeos mural underneath would once again re-emerge at the Houston and Bowery location, what AM has confirmed may be even more exciting…  The site will be a new canvas for another street legend soon - Barry McGee!

We’ll be sure to have more for you as this project gets underway…

Streets: Os Gemeos x Futura in NYC Wrap-Up

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Wrapping up our coverage of a phenomenal collaboration, AM got to spend some time with Os Gemeos & Futura on their day off after the completion of this impressive mural. The seven story mural consisted of the twins working on the “britches” and Futura utilizing his “point-men” to create the crazy shirt (all in conjunction with AKANYC and 12ozProphet with support from Nike and Montana Colors). It’s nothing short of amazing that his project took less than a week to complete. Everyone was finally able to relax and soak in the project after intensely focusing on their details and constantly driving the two cherry pickers up and down the building to get this just right.

Streets: Os Gemeos x Futura in NYC (Part 4)

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

As we continue to witness this mural collaboration go up in front of our eyes between Os Gemeos and Futura, we are just amazed by the detailed work put in by the street legends. Here we see some simultaneous tag team work as the twins put in some finishing touches and as Futura continues working in his signature pointman motif.

Streets: Os Gemeos x Futura in NYC (Part 3)

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

As we continue to monitor the progress of the Os Gemeos x Futura mural on 320 West 21st Street in New York, we have received a new set of pics from AM photographer, Joe Russo. As you can see, the twins are almost done with their part of the mural, namely the figurative portions and the “flag pants.”  Soon, Futura will be starting in on the shirt and his portion of the mural.

More pics after the jump and stay tuned…

Streets: Os Gemeos x Futura in NYC (Part 2)

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

After posting the mural project between Os Gemeos & Futura, we thought it wouldn’t be right to be in NYC and not stop by for an onsite AM look behind this project. The twins (Octavio & Gustavo) took an early crack at the legal mural space which is actually a Chelsea public school (P.S. 11) and is made possible by support from Nike, Montana Colors, and Allen Benedikt of 12oz Prophet & AKANYC.

The ginormous figure measures over seven stories tall and from what you see, the pants sports more than a few colorful “flags”. Working non-stop and still awaiting Futura to take his turn, this instant classic still has a few more layers of craziness to go. In the coming days look to us for continuing coverage. Until then check out all the details after the jump.

Streets: Os Gemeos x Futura in NYC (Part 1)

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

A pretty epic collaboration piece is going down right now in NYC. After attending the opening of the PRISM group show, then hitting up Yosemite with Barry McGee, the twins have now started a huge mural with Futura in Chelsea. Os Gemeos is definitely on a roll after working with another legend, Blu, in Lisbon just a little while ago in May. Now, New York will have not one but two murals from the Brazilian duo.

Os Gemeos

Os Gemeos

Last night, the PRISM gallery on the Sunset Strip hosted a group exhibition “Come As You Are” in conjunction with New Image Art and RVCA. Featuring an eclectic collection of artists across all genres, the show included Susanne Melanie Berry, Kelsey Brookes (featured), Richard Colman (interviewed), Dennis Hopper, Ryan McGinness, Cleon Peterson, Clare Rojas, Craig Stecyk, Deanna Templeton, Ed Templeton and a video by Cheryl Dunn of Dash Snow as well as the three artists below.

In particular, we liked the pieces by Os Gemeos (priced at $50K+ each), who were still in town after participating in the Viva La Revolucion exhibition. We also were surprised by the the size and detail of the painting from the Clayton Brothers (featured). But, the most interesting development of all were some new abstract works from Clare Rojas, which were completely unexpected.

Swoon

Saturday evening in San Diego was a great night for street, urban, and new contemporary art. With many of the museums in so-called cultural centers of this country and world still slow to embrace a rapidly growing movement, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego made it clear where they stand with an amazing exhibition of some of the major players in this art “Revolucion”. Not only did the city open up their public spaces to the artists (albeit still with some naysayers), they also turned out in full force to support the opening just like art lovers have in the few other museums that have taken a risk to display non-traditional art.

Perhaps the rumored upcoming street art exhibition at the LA MOCA under the new guidance of Deitch will be the coming out party for our movement, but San Diego, you will be remembered. More opening photos after the jump…

Streets: Os Gemeos for Viva La Revolucion

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

It seems like every time there is an important museum exhibiton, art festival or fair, Os Gemeos is sure to be invited to participate. Who can blame the curators though as the twins never cease to amaze with their indoor and outdoor works featuring colorful and imaginative characters showcasing the vigor and lifeblood of Brazil?

Coming off their work for Fame Fest ‘10, Otavio and Gustavo join the list of who’s who in street art in sunny San Diego for the epic “Viva La Revolucion” exhibition opening this weekend at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. Who knows what wonders the duo have in store inside for museum-goers, but what we do know is that they have painted this sweet mural at the back of Horton Plaza (G Street between 2nd and 3rd).

Looks like next up on the list are Os Gemeos as they they took in the sights of the Italian town as well as left some sights of their own. Not sure if this stop in their hectic travel schedule was before or after their efforts in Lisbon…

Streets: Os Gemeos, Blu, and Sam3 (Lisbon)

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

It looks like the mural collaboration between Os Gemeos and Blu that we showed you a couple days ago has been completed. Check out the awesome man with the crown of oil company logos sucking the world dry painted by Blu, pretty timely considering what is going on in the Gulf of Mexico. Take a look at more pics after the jump including a bonus mural by Sam3 on a neighboring building.

Streets: Os Gemeos & Blu (Lisbon)

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Since Os Gemeos was in town for their exhibition (covered) at the Lisbon’s Museu Colecção Berardo, it was a foregone conclusion that they would leave their mark inside and out. Here you can see them teaming up with another high-flying street act, the prolific Blu from Italy. Hopefully we’ll see more photos of the completed piece soon…
