Openings: Geoff McFetridge – “It Looks Like It Says” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Last week, It Looks Like It Says opened at Joshua Liner Gallery, the latest solo from Geoff McFetridge. The exhibition consisted of a series of large scale works as well as smaller works on paper arranged together on one wall of the New York showspace. The Los Angeles-based artist’s first solo with the gallery introduced fans in the area to his minimalistic aesthetic, emphasizing basic forms and plays on perspective. Discuss Geoff McFetridge here.

Previews: Matt Dangler – “Sanctify” @ Copro Gallery

On October 10th, Matt Dangler (interviewed) will be opening a new solo at Copro Gallery, the site of his showing in Los Angeles in 2012 (covered). Entitled Sanctify, the title is perhaps a hint at some of the heavier topics that the gifted painter will be exploring with his surreal vision. During our recent travels abroad to catch the opening of Banksy’s Dismaland, we also made a few stops to see friends of ours across the pond. With this being the last week of the Invisible College group exhibition at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, now would be a good time for a recap. Co-curated by Andrew and Shawn Hosner of Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Gallery and Josef Zimmerman from the museum, the title references the fact that many of the artists on the roster didn’t take a traditional art education path to where their careers are now. For its inaugural exhibition opening on September 25th, Chandran Gallery has chosen to show all new works from Richard Colman collectively entitled Faces, Figures, Places and Things. As one of the selected artists for the Rumsey St. Project, Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) was recently invited into Michigan to create a site-specific installation. Habitat for Humanity of Kent County has offered SiTE:LAB the use of nearly three acres of land in Grand Rapids’ Roosevelt Park neighborhood where they invited local and international artists in to create works in response to the vacant land and structures.
