Openings: “Brothers of the Weird” @ Cooper Cole Gallery

A couple weeks ago in Toronto, the newly renamed Cooper Cole Gallery hosted the opening for Brothers of the Weird. Anchored by the ever entertaining Todd “REAS” James, the group show also featured the colorful works of associates and friends Joe Grillo (Dearraindrop), Billy Grant, Devin Flynn and Ian Flynn. Openings: Evol & Friends @ Pictures On Walls

Following his recent installation in London Smithfield market (covered here), German artist EVOL and a full supporting cast of artists took over Pictures on Walls for the Christmas show with installations, sculptures, books and limited edition prints. Other featured artists include Banksy, Barminski, Dran, Tilt, James Cauty, Paul Insect, Wayne White, Might Mo, Todd James, Invader, Cept, Jerome Miller, Pacolli, Victor Van Gaasbeek, Zach Schrey and more. Todd “REAS” James, whose show at ICY signs along with Steve “ESPO” Powers featuring a exhibition of signs from their historic Street Market installation (sans Barry McGee) we just attended, has a new curatorial project coming up next month. Taking a group of friends up north to Cooper Cole Gallery (formerly Show & Tell Gallery), Brothers of Weird will include the also include the artistic stylings of Joe Grillo (Dearraindrop), Billy Grant, Devin Flynn and Ian Flynn.

On Saturday afternoon, Steve “ESPO” Powers and Todd “REAS” James hosted an dizzying one-day reinterpretation of their legendary Street Market exhibition, without Barry McGee, at ICY Signs in Brooklyn. ICY was Powers and crew’s 5400 sq. feet downtown sign-painting studio on Livingston Street while working on his Brooklyn Love Letters project (covered). ESPO & REAS are at it again – this time perhaps without the third conspirator, Barry McGee, in regards to the Street Market installation seen recently at the seminal Art in the Streets exhibition at the LA MoCA. The other night, we attended a great event held at the Wooster St. Social Club for Aidan Has A Posse, a website raising funds for and awareness about Aidan Seeger. Aidan is a young boy who has Adrenoleukodystrophy   (ALD), a rare neurological disorder. But he also has a lot of friends, a posse including the likes of Cope2, Tony Curanaj, Ewok, Todd James, Romon Kimin Yang, Greg Lamarche, Steve Powers and Kostas Seremetis – all of whom donated art works to be auctioned off to [...]

Later this month, the Paul Kasmin Gallery will host the opening of Pretty on the Inside, a show curated by KAWS and Erik Parker. To our knowledge, this is the first time KAWS has flexed his curatorial chops since I Can’t Feel My Face exhibition in Los Angeles in 2009 (covered). Along with the two curators, the other artists they chose to join them are Todd James, Tony Matelli, Joyce Pensato, Peter Saul, and Karl Wirsum. See you there on June 23rd. Discuss KAWS here.

Fans of Todd James weathered the snow to show their support at the opening of his solo exhibition Infinite Lessons at A.L.I.C.E. Gallery in Brussels.
