Teaser: Camille Rose Garcia – “The Hydra of Babylon” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

Camille Rose Garcia’s show “The Hydra of Babylon” is fast approaching! This exhibition at Merry Karnowsky Gallery, opening in September, will be her first show in Los Angeles in over two years.  She describes the show by saying “watch out for eagles, vultures, crazy butterflies, and of course a giant nine-headed hydra.” She also hints that “a secret punk rock superhero of (hers) will be hosting if she is in town!”  Not surprising as she has some interest in the music industry, as evidenced by […]

Prototype: Jeff Soto’s “Seeker” Figure

Continuing our look at some prototypes for art toys during SDCC week, we now turn our attention to the “Seeker” figure from Jeff Soto (interviewed).  The figure appears to be based on some paintings from his recent Riverside Art Museum show and will be produced by Bigshot Toyworks, the same company producing Travis Louie’s “Uncle Six-Eyes.” Take a look at a video with Soto explaining the figure here, as well as look at some more pics of the protoype and source paintings after the jump.

As is often the case, KAWS breaking news comes from originalfake with the uploading of this robotic image of the newest KAWS release. Releases: Sam Flores x Upper Playground – Dragon Boy

Sam Flores’ (interviewed) amazing Dragon Boy figure really impressed us when news broke of this collaboration with Upper Playground.  Flores’ took one of the best paintings from his Subliminal Projects show and transformed it into a three piece 10″ toy that was created for UP’s  10th anniversary and produced by The Loyal Subjects.  Limited to 500 pieces, this figure will drop early September but apparently the pre-order is sold out now. More pics after the jump.

Releases: Bronze Pollard – Tim Biskup

Tim Biskup has been teasing his collectors with new images of his 7″ Bronze Pollard on his blog.  We like the new faceted look which mirrors the evolution of style in his paintings.  The figure will be produced with an edition of 44 and will be stamped and initialed on the feet. With his previous bronze release, the 2″ Iki, costing about $300, fans had better start saving now for the June release. More images after the jump.
