Following his several previous, and now mostly sold out, releases with Secret Base and Toy Tokyo, Ron English (covered) returns with yet another version of his now classic McSuperSized figure. Recently, we stopped by Tomokazu “Matsu” Matsuyama’s (interviewed) Brooklyn studio (here) and saw one of the coolest things he’s working on – a Bearbrick with famed toy makers Medicom on their next artist series release. Today, Gary Baseman (interviewed) is set to release his first figure “Midnight Magi” with toy maker Kidrobot. This heralds the launch of Kidrobot Black, an ultra-exclusive line that features only one colorway – black, with the molds being broken after production. The cool figure is limited to only 200 pieces and will only be released on a special Kidrobot site: http://www.black.kidrobot.com. So, keep your eyes peeled for the special site to go live. Confirmed for a noon release tomorrow (probably eastern time), the last in a series of 4 foot companions from KAWS will be up for grabs. The black dissected will sell out quickly no doubt at anywhere from 4-6K we would guess. Good luck! For KAWS collectors who follow the elusive and highly coveted 4 foot companion series, (here & here) it’s been a forgone conclusion that the final 4ft black dissected companion would be released. The real question was when? Well, it’s just been confirmed that the final dissected companion (black) of the 4 foot series will be released December 19th at the Original Fake Tokyo flagship store. Well-known Australian comic book artist and illustrator Ashley Wood recently headlined a group show in Hong Kong. Our HK correspondent Andy Li was on hand to take some pics of the “HK Venture” also featuring toys and figures from Threezero, Kenny Wong, Colan Ho, and Mak Siu Fung. Urban Medium recently released a whole new colorway series of their long sold out CheTrooper Bust. Standing at 7.5″, these vinyl sculptures are limited to only fifty pieces per colorway and are expected to sell out quickly. Friday night saw the opening of Tim Biskups’ “I Hate Everyone But You” exhibition (previewed) in Melrose at De La Barracuda. Featuring paintings, sculptures, prints, and toys from the creator of the Helper, the comprehensive show was enjoyed by all. Doktor A, who is considered by many to be one of the pre-eminent “customizers” out there, is opening his show “Freak Machanique” tonight in Detroit. He has long since shown he that he has many other talents including painting and sculpting.
