Openings: Ben EINE – “Shutter Font” Exhibition @ Nelly Duff

Ben EINE, the street artist best known for his massive lettering across shop fronts and walls throughout the United Kingdom, presented his “Shutter Font” exhibition last week with Nelly Duff. The show was a behind the scenes look into the various stages of EINE’s pieces and also served to document his world record attempt, with EINE slated to hand-pull a seventy-seven color screen print across an edition of 150 pieces, resulting in 11,550 individual hand-pulls to complete all the works. Fans certainly appreciated the skill […]

Releases: Jeff Soto – “Inland Empire” Print

AM stopped by for an early look at the new limited edition Jeff Soto will be releasing named “Inland Empire” – a 5 color hand-pulled screen print.  Soto’s similarily named show “Inland Empire” (teased) is set to open this weekend at StolenSpace. Limited to 65 this 75 x 55cm, this print will cost £75 and will be available starting Friday on the gallery website as well as available at the show opening.  There will also be a single color screen print available that will be […]

Openings: Melissa Haslam – “Wild Fields” @ LeBasse Projects

Hailing from the land down under, Melissa Haslam (interviewed) made her first trip to Los Angeles for her show “Wild Fields” (previewed) which opened this past weekend at LeBasse Projects. Drawing inspiration from the world around her, Haslam presents her viewers with what she understands best: striking female characters against the backdrop of local Aussie flora and fauna mixed with just the right splash of color. See all of Haslam’s beautiful pieces from the show after the jump.

Openings: Mark Brown – The Lost MacGuffin @ Gallery 1988

Good idea and great execution. That’s the impression we walked away with at Mark Brown’s debut solo show at  Gallery 1988 (LA).  The beautiful paintings in “The Lost MacGuffin” are actually linked in a cohesive and fluid storyline. Starting off from one end of the gallery to the other, the audience will see the story unfolding in each painting. The premise revolves around MacGuffin’s encyclopedia and the drama that unfolds while the characters pursue the mythical book. The art work is top notch and the details […]

Tunnel 228 Theatre x Art Show by Kevin Spacey

The vaults under Waterloo Station have been taken over by artistic director Kevin Spacey and his team from the Old Vic Theatre for their latest venture: Tunnel 228. A very cool “pop up” art show and theatre experience that seems to have come out of nowhere. Via a mysterious website which poses as a legit business, people can get free tickets to the event via a hidden link that allows the visitor to participate in the project. The show includes work by ATMA, Mark Jenkins, Antony […]

Eugenio Merino Sculpture/Parody of Murakami

Like Mike Leavitt (interviewed), Eugenio Merino is another artist who sculpts caricatures of other artists, but he does it in a more satirical fashion.  We here at AM are sure most of our readers first noticed this Spanish artist’s work after seeing his Hirst-inspired sculpture earlier this year.  This time, he takes aim at Takashi Murakami by placing his head on the body of the prostitute Julia Roberts portrays in the popular movie “Pretty Woman,” obviously implying Murakami has sold out with his increasingly retail […]

Openings: Yoskay Yamamoto – “Hello and Goodbye” @ LeBasse Projects

“Hello and Goodbye” (featured) the latest body of work from Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) opened this past Saturday at LeBasse Projects. The show featured some of Yamamoto’s largest paintings to date and the level of detail and techniques employed by Yoskay for these new pieces clearly show his artistic growth since his last solo. These latest works reveal a physical texture that compliments his signature aged and acid washed backdrops and AM also enjoyed his venture into a bolder palette that makes his subjects “pop.” Yoskay’s […]

Openings: Mars-1 @ Billy Shire Fine Arts

AM stopped by Billy Shire Fine Arts to catch Mars-1’s latest show. Hot off his last show “Nuclear Mystics” at Jonathan LeVine Gallery, Mars-1 continued his direction of creating larger pieces that capture the grand-scale feeling his imagery evokes. The show also featured new resin statues in a color we did not see at his last show at Jonathan Levine Gallery. Check out all the detailed pics after the jump.

Openings: Travis Louie – “Strange Grooming Habits” @ Copro Gallery

Last night, the artist community and fans were out in full force for the opening of Travis Louie’s (interviewed) “Strange Grooming Habits” at the Bergamot Station. For this show at Copro Gallery, Louie dressed up the bizarre denizens of his imagination in stately garb and painted them in his signature style of emulating vintage photography from the Victorian era. His tremendous attention to detail was readily apparent, especially in the 28×37″ painting of his beloved “Bill” (seen above). Those who thought Louie’s work would not […]
