AM attended the much anticipated homecoming exhibition for the Brooklyn street art collective Faile last Thursday night. Their solo show “Bedtime Stories” was held at the esteemed Perry Rubenstein Gallery where the traditional white walls were a great contrast to the colorful and image laden exhibition. Utilizing their latest “wood block” concept which we explored in our studio visit (here & here), the Patricks took their symbolic imagery and stories to a new level. Take for example their already iconic “Faile Boxes” which contain images on each side, but now they upped the ante by creatively assembling a new flock of stories packed into a framed geometric area. It’s like having a hundred mini-Faile boxes unfolding right before your eyes.
From the open moments of the show, the gallery was filled with onlookers dying to see what the innovative collective had in stored for them. We honestly thought we got to see everything that was in store for the show after the revealing studio visit we conducted. To our delight, there was one more surprise left to raise the bar yet again with a “Faile Tower” setup in the center of the gallery greeting all that came through the door. The gallery staff commented that the entire tower was designed/created at the studio and assembled on-site in less than two hours! The exciting show runs until December 23rd so if you’re in the New York area, the artists formerly known as Alife should be on your must see list.
