In what may tragically be the last Cosmonaut series work ever, at least according to the Australian artist himself, Jeremy Geddes (interviewed) has just completed a highly detailed, yet surprisingly small (14.5″ x 22.8″) painting, entitled Warmer Air. It looks like Wynwood Walls is kicking off things early this year because just after RETNA hit up his wall in Miami, ROA, Gaia, Nunca, HOW & NOSM, the Date Farmers, Faile, and Bast rolled into town to do their thing. A couple weeks ago, Patricia Armocida Gallery opened a group show curated by Steve Powers (aka ESPO) at their Milan location. Just last Saturday night, Kukula filled the ground floor of the Corey Helford Gallery with her newest paintings, influenced by her recent visit to the France and the rich and decadent life of the old aristocracy. A couple weeks ago, Paula Cooper Gallery opened a rare exhibition of works by Roy Lichtenstein from his celebrated Entablatures series. Serving as a departure from the signature spotted, comic-inspired pop art he carved his artistic niche upon in the early 1960’s, the paintings are based around the subject of “entablatures”; ornamental features found on classical building facades. Last Friday evening, Spoke Art Gallery hosted the opening of Sink or Swim (previewed), a benefit for the Japan-based grass roots organization PangeaSeed, whose goal is to raise international awareness on the plight of sharks. The show included literature, photos, artwork and members of PangeaSeed creating a dialogue as to why we must preserve and protect sharks and their habitat. AM recently attended the annual RxArt benefit gala. The non-profit organization dedicated to placing original fine art (see Jeff Koons) in patient and examination rooms of hospitals have long garnered the staunch support from some other big names in art such as Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, Yoshitomo Nara, Marilyn Minter and Ed Ruscha.
