As we previewed a few days back, PULSE is getting ready for its big reveal in Los Angeles next weekend, running from September 30 to October 3. Jen Stark will be present at the inaugural Southern California iteration of the increasingly exciting contemporary art fair. Perhaps influenced by the pop-up restaurant The Tree House (see video above) in Frankfurt for which he presumably curated the artwork for, Lazarides will be bringing the PRET A DINER concept in for his newest project in London. During Frieze and the London Restaurant Festival, from October 10 – 25, the gallery will be organizing a show and pop-up fine dining experience in The Old Vic Tunnels, site of 2010’s Hell’s Half Acre exhibition. This Saturday night, New Yorkers will be treated to the dark and detailed graphite drawings from Laurie Lipton. Featuring imagery characteristic of the Day of the Dead festival as well as her distinctive cross-hatching technique of creating depth and luminosity in her work, Carnival of Death should not be missed. AM recently caught the opening of Richard Hambleton’s A Retrospective at Phillips de Pury’s Park Avenue gallery space. Retna x Chanel Store (Beverly Hills)

Retna (featured), who recently was in Miami setting off Wynwood Walls for this year, was spotted back in Los Angeles painting in the Chanel store where he spent some time doing working on some black on black adornment of one of the walls in the Beverly Hills boutique with his signature calligraphy. Opening a couple weeks ago at Midtown Manhattan’s fordPROJECT was Reflections, a exhibition of three contemporary Japanese painters curated by fordPROJECT’s director Rachel Vancelette in collaboration with Tokyo’s Tomio Koyama Gallery. The highlight of the show for us was Hideaki Kawashima, who presented a mix of his newer style, more realistic paintings and his older style, more atmospheric ones, including a series of simple portraits that perfectly addressed the theme of reflection. Streets: Blu (Spain) Part II

After a machine-like summer which saw Blu continue banging out thought provoking murals in the Eurozone in a near never ending stream of projects that started back in March (see Italy, Bologna, Palestra, Jesi, Krakow, Poznań, Fabriano, Cologne, Grottaglie, Valencia, Italy), the Italian street maestro has apparently worked his wizardry on another massive wall in Valencia, Spain. The last time we featured Marco Mazzoni, he was getting ready for his show in his home city of Milan at the Arsprima Gallery. Fans of the Italian painter will be happy to hear that his next solo is coming up in a couple months, this time in Copenhagen at Gallery B15.
