This Sunday afternoon, November 13th, the Wende Museum presents Behind the Berlin Wall, a private reception ($50 to benefit the museum, call 310.216.1600 ext. 305 for those interested) featuring the unveiling of murals from Herakut, D*Face’s (interviewed), and RETNA (featured) on a remnant of the Berlin Wall, the longest stretch in the world outside of Germany. Previews: Femke Hiemstra – “The Timid Cabbage” @ Roq La Rue

Tomorrow night, November 11th, Seattle’s Roq La Rue plays host to a new exhibition from Dutch painter Femke Hiemstra. She just showed in LA in July in a three-person show and this time will be showing alongside Ryan Heshka (just like in 2010) with a series of 11 drawings based on the poem The Timid Cabbage by Charles Krafft. Each drawing goes with a stanza, and that stanza is written on the surrounding mat by Femke. More preview images after the jump…

Preview: Marco Mazzoni – “Xtsy” @ Gallery B15

Tonight (November 10th) in Copenhagen, Marco Mazzoni will be introducing a whole new body of work entitled Xtsy at Gallery B15. Showing his proficiency with colored pencils, the Italian artist has continued to explore his form of faceless portraiture with a series of vibrant works that feature a melding of human and natural world. This Saturday, Augustine Kofie will be opening a solo exhibition, Circulatory System, at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco. The title is a play on words describing a new body of work that focuses on circular shapes in an interconnected system, much like an engine or a network of intersecting highways. Initially known for his iconic red and yellow ‘Temples’ sprayed onto wheelie bins and walls across the world, Sickboy returns to London for his second major solo show titled Heaven & Earth. Taking inspiration from Renaissance paintings, religious iconography and surrealist artists like Hieronymus Bosch, Sickboy has spent the last two years building up a new body of work. Opening last Thursday at Yossi Milo was the latest show by talented NY-based Scandinavian photographer, Simen Johan. Johan has developed a unique method in which he photographs animals and plants in nature preserves and then uses sculptural and digital techniques to seamlessly incorporate them into environments of his creation. This Saturday, November 12th, the Merry Karnowsky will play host to Travis Louie (interviewed) and his distinctive portraiture as well as his Curious Pets. The NY-based painter will be expanding his series of of paintings (also see Roq La Rue show) featuring a vintage look at fantastical pets and their owners, some of whom are quite strange themselves.
