Openings: Tom Sachs – “WORKS” @ Sperone Westwater

Last week, AM stopped by the architectural tour de force and New York showspace Sperone Westwater to take in the new solo from Tom Sachs. The painter and sculptor created a vast body of work influenced by a disparate range of historic objects and cultural icons which were recreated and remixed in his signature blend of whimsy and mastery of materials. Included in the exhibition was this reproduction of the award-winning gallery (seen above), rendered in meticulous detail. More openings photos after the jump…

Just a few days ago, Paul Insect debuted his first major U.S. solo exhibition at Venice’s Post No Bills gallery. Featuring a vast array of original art on paper as well as exclusive limited edition prints, the show illustrated the street artist’s many different talents and interests. As we indicated in our preview of the work for the exhibition, the artists invited to celebrate Billy Shire’s illustrious curatorial career are the cream of the crop including Al Farrow with his amazing mosque created with the help of bullets and gun parts. Last week, AM stopped by the Lazarides (Rathbone Place) gallery space in London as the Faile Collective (featured) unveiled a new body of work. Fragments of Faile included some strong new mixed block pieces that fans of the Patricks have been accustomed to, but what they had been keeping under wraps until shortly before the opening was a new direction in their creative output. Last weekend, AM stopped by Kopeiken Gallery to view Amy Ross’ newest show, Lone Wolf. As we examined the new body of work, it was evident that she has continued to expand on the show last year at the in Boston where she combined wolf and human forms expresses her anti-war sentiments in a personal set of watercolors. We first met Bay Area graffiti artist, designer, and illustrator Aaron De La Cruz at POW WOW earlier this year where he painted wall murals utilizing his minimalistic and signature patterns. Long Walk Home sees him return to the scene of the crime, Loft in Space, with more of his work, this time in the form of a solo exhibition.
