David Zwirner in New York is currently showing recent paintings and pastels from Lisa Yuskavage at their 533 West 19th Street location. Inspired by hippies and her experiences growing up in the 70s, the locally-based painter has produced a vibrant new body of work that for the first time includes men in her portraiture. After painting murals literally all over the globe and opening a couple successful gallery shows recently, Seth Globepainter, is releasing his 1st lithograph edition. Enter The Vortex is an image that the artist introduced at his recent Paris solo show (covered), then painted as a mural during his recent trip in China (covered), and is now being released through Print Them All. Currently at Driscoll Babcock Galleries in New York, All We Have Is Now is on display from Jenny Morgan. The series of paintings utilizing vivid oversaturated colors are striking in their raw honesty and emotive value. Based thematically on her thoughts on life, death, and rebirth, the new work shows the NYC-based artist skills while deftly alternating between stark portraiture and surreal imagery. After sharing one of the first murals painted for this year’s ALT!rove – Street Art Festival from Clemens Behr, it’s now time to give you a recap of the event. The theme of the public arts program for this year was abstraction and the curatorial staff did a good job choosing the right artists for the job. Upcoming: Josh Keyes @ Antler Gallery

On July 30th, Josh Keyes (interviewed) will be returning to the Antler Gallery in Portland for another showing (see 2014). If this glimpse into the new body of work is any indication, the locally-based artist has further refined his new aesthetic that takes his imagery all the way to the edge of the panels he paints on. This new 12 x 18″ piece is entitled Quake, and has us excited to see the fresh set of works when the exhibition opens. Discuss Josh Keyes here.

Jan Kalab is a Czech artist that was one of the pioneers of graffiti in his homeland. As a founder of the DSK crew, his career stretched from Prague’s train yards to painting whole cars in NYC in 2000. Around that time, he developed an interest for 3D graffiti and eventually started sculpting huge abstracts letters. What started out as a sunny Saturday morning eventually turned into nearly five spotty days of thunderstorms, coastline flash flooding and Maya Hayuk relentlessly riding out the storm in pursuit of her craft. As the weather went from bright, blooming and beautiful to dark, dreary and dismal, so also morphed the aesthetic of this incredible wall. We just received these photos of new works by Pejac created few days ago in Hong Kong. The artist who is known for his witty concepts recently spent a few days in a former British colony leaving several diverse works throughout the city. Tackling the problems of overpopulation and limited rights, the “Umbrella Revolution” as well as Chinese tradition, most of the works were very small in scale but large in their message.
