Ayako Rokkaku @ Scope Miami

Over at Basel Week Miami, there were hundreds if not thousands of artists that were represented at the various art fairs. Ayako Rokkaku was one that caught AM’s eye and we did a little more digging for you. Similar to another rising Japanese arist: Masakatsu Sashie (here), Ayako also got her start at Takashi Murakami’s Geisai art fair where she won Scout Prize at Geisai #4/#10 and the prestigious Akio Goto Prize at Geisai #9. Her style is unique in that she paints not with brushes […]

Lehman Brothers to sell art collection

We’ve all heard of the unfortunate events to hit the economy in recent months with major financial investment firms going bankrupt and many assets falling to zero. Apparently these major financial firms have been some of the biggest investors in the art world. Recently, Lehman asked a bankruptcy judge to approve a 20k payment to its art handlers in order to start showing their collection to potential buyers. Lehman needs sell off part of art collection to raise at least 8 million dollars. It seems that […]

Thinkspace has been very busy. First, their stellar lineup at the Gen Arts fair at Basel Week, (here) then right back in LA with a new show: Mostly Memory. This exhibit showcases two talented urban artists: Armsrock (Denmark) and Elbow-Toe (NYC).  We have no doubt the gallery will be transformed with some crazy installations that are already in progress.  Make sure you don’t miss the opening reception on Friday, Dec 12th (7-11pm). Thanks to Thinkspace/Sour Harvest, we gathered some preview images of their work for […]

Gen Art Vanguard – Basel Party

Friday night ended with a bang at the OBEY x Z Trip party. But AM never told the tale of how this massive night of Basel parties started. The Gen Art Vanguard party was the Basel Friday night jumpoff where the “who’s who” of Miami were at. With heavy hitter sponsors such as FAGE, Citibank, and Bombay Sapphire footing the bill for drinks, Gen Art Vanguard was transformed into a true Miami mega event.  Stars and artists lined up to grab their VIP goodie bags while everyone else […]

Gen Arts – Vanguard @ Basel Week Miami

Definitely one of the coolest fairs in Miami is the Gen Art Vanguard. (It probably doesn’t hurt to have one of the best parties of the week either).  Housing some of the most cutting edge galleries: Carmichael, Thinkspace, M Modern, Mark Murphy, Galerie d’art Yves Laroche, and etc, this was one of the fairs that AM made a point to visit more than once at Basel Week. We were on site early Friday morning to make our rounds to shoot the artwork and massive party […]
