Openings: Vandalog & M.A.N.Y – “Up Close & Personal”

AM recently attended a group exhibition (previewed) held by Vandalog and M.A.N.Y. in New York. The show Up Close & Personal was unique in the sense that it was not held outdoors or in a gallery, but in an actual apartment on the Upper West Side. The show was limited to viewing for less than a week, but less is more as art fans were escorted in small groups for an intimate viewing session of small works by Aiko, Chris Stain, Elbowtoe, Gaia, How & […]

Openings: FriendsWithYou – “Rainbow City” @ High Line (New York)

Wednesday night saw the transport of FriendsWithYou’s massive installation Rainbow City (first seen in Miami) to New York to celebrate the opening of Section 2 of the High Line. The air-filled structures, some up to 40 feet high, from Sam and Tury, who make up the Miami based collective are sculptural representations of their colorful abstractions, 0f which some smaller versions were seen at The Hole last night (more on that later). For now, enjoy more photos of the immersive playground after the jump…

Openings: Kaws – “Passing Through” Companion @ The Standard (NY)

Today, AM was on hand to catch the arrival of the mother of all Kaws Companions (so far). This Passing Through Companion was hauled over from the backyard of the Aldrich Contemporary Museum, where it was last exhibited and dropped off in the front yard of The Standard Hotel in New York. When we stopped by, the crew was busy creating the platform for the figure, while tourists of the trendy Meatpacking district kept stopping to take pictures of the imposing sculpture. We even tried […]

Teasers: Kaws – “Passing Through” Companion @ The Standard (New York)

All right kids, Kaws is coming back to homebase for the summer. The huge companion statue showcased recently at the The Aldrich Contemporary Museum will be stopping by the meatpacking district of Manhattan. We first saw this giant companion in the Hong Kong Passing Through exhibition (covered). Now we get to enjoy this at the front yard of The Standard Hotel New York. The figure will be available for viewing starting tomorrow June 8th and will run until October. Discuss Kaws here.

Openings: Logan Hicks – “Pretty Ugly” @ Opera Gallery (NY)

Logan Hicks (interviewed) debuted his latest show Pretty Ugly (previewed) last week at the Opera Gallery in New York. The new body of work was created over the past six months and featured some of his largest indoor pieces to date. While there, we noticed that Logan was working with various compositions and subjects that normally isn’t seen in his work. To compliment his detailed environmental stencil pieces, he also created portrait works and played with colors or lack thereof. What we enjoyed especially was […]

Videos: Jeremy Fish x Snoop Dogg – “Listen and Learn” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Check out this video with Snoop Dogg created for Jeremy Fish’s (featured) upcoming show Listen and Learn at Joshua Liner Gallery. As the title suggests, this show will showcase the stories and the storytellers as its focal point. Jeremy has collected a diverse group of people that spans from artists, skateboarders, athletes, a stripper, a cop, a historian and of course – a rapper. Catch Snoop tell it like it is of his childhood where he pulls out his “worm” to impress a girl in […]

Streets: Montana Cans Across America

As most graf and street artists know, one of the suppliers of their tools of the trade is spray paint company Montana Cans. The Germany-based business now has a new project called Montana Cans Across America where a team of graf artists consisting of Smash 137, Wane and Sever take a 8-day roadtrip through the South. Here are some shots of the results of their hard work in Nashville from photographer Ruedione. Check it all out after the jump.

Previews: “NY Ink” @ Wooster Street Social Club

Many tattoo fans who have followed LA Ink & Miami Ink probably already know that tonight will be the series premiere of NY Ink. And, as the title indicates, this spinoff is set in the Big Apple. For all you art lovers, there’s an additional reason aside from the sick tattoos and drama to check out this show – amazing art. Earlier this year AM was tapped to help curate the inaugural season of the show. Artwork from artists such as Shepard Fairey, Audrey Kawasaki, […]

Openings: Cleon Peterson – “White Flag” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

AM attended the opening night for Cleon Peterson’s show White Flag at Joshua Liner Gallery a couple weeks ago. Being the first solo exhibition in New York, we were impressed by the sheer size and raw graphics displayed by Cleon. His color choices and figure composition seems to hold nothing back hitting the viewers right between the eyes with pure emotions. As mentioned in our preview, the gross violence and lawless nature of his subjects seem to convey giving in to one’s dark side, thus […]

Contests: Faile – Puzzle Boxes Mobile App & Website

Since our last studio visit (here & here) to Faile’s Brooklyn HQ prior to their Bedtime Stories exhibition, we’ve had something we wanted to get off our chest – but, because we were of course sworn to secrecy at gunpoint, we hesitated to spill the beans on a project involving their top secret Puzzle Boxes. Well, now we can breathe a sigh of relief as the collective has given us the green light. We’re happy to tell you about a unique project in which the duo have […]
