As the titled suggests, the goal of the show is the pull the traditional color palettes from everyone’s arsenal and challenge them to create works under a monochromatic direction. LeBasse Projects has been busy setting up a new gallery space at Chung King Road of LA’s Chinatown district, and now everything is set to go as they’ll officially launch the secondary location at the end of the month. Tondo… That was the word of the week that Honor Fraser taught us about their Armory booth featuring Kaws. Tondo is the term for the round canvases which dazzled passerby’s at the blue chip art fair. At the center of the showcase, an impressive “Tondo Wall” was created using 21 round canvases. Each piece featured a different expression set in a distinct minimalist fashion and together the installation worked to convey a possible sequence or gamut of emotion. On Saturday, Nick Walker (interviewed) capped off his NY tour with a special print release of his The Morning After: New York print. The long awaited silkscreen was two years in the making as Nick officially created this image two years ago on the side of the Cooper Hotel. Don’t tell us that we’re the only people disappointed that Banksy didn’t win the Academy Award’s Best Documentary category. AM has been in full Oscar-watch mode since the movie’s nomination to the shortlist. The POW WOW wasn’t only an indoor affair. Being in Hawaii, the gang took full advantage of all that the beautiful tropical atmosphere had to offer. An entire side of the building (across from Fresh Cafe) was secured for the artists who quickly put their street game facse on. Prime, Wu Yue, 123Klan, Will Barras, Meggs, and Ekundayo grabbed their spray cans to work under the Honolulu sky. The end product was dynamic murals created so that the local art fans could enjoy for years to come. […]

The weeks of setup for the POW WOW ’11 in Honolulu culminated in blowout showcase bringing together talent from different parts of the world. People all over Hawaii came to take part in the celebration where performance, photography, graffiti, and fine art intersected.
