Hosted by Comedy Central & Opera Gallery, the exhibition invited 15 artists to reinterpret their favorite character or moments from the iconic South Park animated series which is celebrating it’s 15th anniversary. Curated by Ron English (featured), amazing and hilarious paintings of Kenny, Cartman, Kyle, Stan and the rest of the SP crew were remixed from the unique visions of Colin Christian, Sas Christian, Beau Stanton, Kid Zoom, Dave White, KaNo, […]

Openings: Exhibition A – “Monochrome Set” @ Ace Hotel

For many of you, Exhibition A is already an organization that you may be familiar with. For the uninitiated, it’s a site that’s dedicated to selling exclusive editioned artwork by some of notable names in contemporary art, but their goal is to do that without breaking your bank. We recently attended the inaugural show for Exhibiton A’s Monochrome Set held at the Ace hotel including works from Terence Koh, Nate Lowman, Hanna Liden, Josephine Meckseper, Olympia Scarry, Peter Sutherland, Oliver Zahm and Leo Fitzpatrick. Check […]

Openings: Mark Flood – “Mark Fluid” @ Zach Feuer

During a hectic Armory Week, AM made time to catch the artist reception for Mark Flood’s and check out his latest series of work, entitled Mark Fluid, at the Zach Feuer gallery. It’s pretty amazing how in his signature paintings, he takes simple canvases and renders them so that it seems to have delicate lacing material coming out from it. The colors and glow each one exudes is stunning. Also on hand to entertain the audience were his witty stencil “phrases” and some detailed installations. […]

Openings: “Water Works” @ GR2

On Saturday, our friends at Giant Robot held a unique group show at their GR2 space. Originally, the event was conceived to raise funds for UNICEF’s Tap Project, which is an effort to get clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world. But, after the disasters which hit Japan, the exhibition was morphed into a benefit to help the children in the ravaged country. A long line of talented artists including Andrice Arp, Gary Baseman, Chris Bettig, Bigfoot, Jude Buffum, Chris Buzelli, Louise […]

Volta ’11 – Jim Houser @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Jonathan LeVine Gallery’s entry to this year’s VOLTA art fair during this year’s Armory Week was artist Jim Houser. The Philly-based artist was in full effect as he brought a beautiful collection of fresh works that spanned an array of sizes and mediums. Much like his last show at Subliminal Projects, Mr. Houser took time customizing the booth with his unique installations including his custom soundtrack. Check it out after the jump.

Openings: Scott Campbell – “Noblesse Oblige” @ OHWOW (LA)

Last Saturday saw the grand opening of OHWOW Gallery’s Los Angeles location. Batting in the lead-off exhibition spot was New York’s tattoo rooted artist Scott Campbell with his latest body of work entitled Noblesse Oblige (previewed). The name of the show implies that “whoever claims to be noble must conduct their life accordingly and in a manner that conforms to one’s position.” In other words, keep it real. Certainly something that Campbell has lived by as shown by a recent torching of his show in Mexico, of which some […]

It’s always cool to see companies give back and sponsor the arts. This time, Hugo Create collaborated with Blek Le Rat to put together a contest for the artist in you. Your homework assignment is to create a work of stencil art based on the inspiration brought on by the city of Berlin. What’s in it for you? Well, Hugo is going to select 5 winners to receive flights and accommodations to Berlin. The winners will be attending a little creative jam session with Blek, […]

Openings: “Too Fast To Live, Too Young To Die” @ Subliminal Projects

When AM recently visited Shepard Fairey at his studio in Los Angeles, he also took us on a private tour of Subliminal Project’s latest exhibition Too Fast To Live, Too Young to Die. The group show curated by Katherine B. Cone and Jon Cournoyer is a selection of photography, art and ephemera from the California punk and hardcore scene emphasizing the explosive period of the late 70’s to early 80’s. Artists included Raymond Pettibon, Shepard Fairey, Glen E. Friedman, Jenny Lens, Dave Markey, Jordan Schwartz […]

Volta ’11 – Richard Colman @ V1 Gallery

Another great artist to be featured at this year’s VOLTA fair’s solo format was Richard Colman (interviewed). Represented at Copenhagen’s V1 Gallery booth, the San Francisco based artist impressed us with a diverse selection of his signature colorful and geometric works. Check it out after the jump.

Volta ’11 – Mark Jenkins @ Carmichael Gallery

VOLTA was a fair during Armory Week that had each gallery bring a single artist to feature. LA’s Carmichael Gallery showcased the talents of street artist Mark Jenkins. The Family Room booth housed many great sculptures from Mark that had fair attendees constantly stopping with double takes when encountering his eye catching pieces. Check it out after the jump.
