Streets: Artists for “Different Strokes” (Penang)

Along with a contributing works for Different Strokes (covered), a group show in Malaysia curated by Giancarlo Petrucci of Graffiti Prints, some of the artists also found time to work on the streets. Openings: ROA – “Metazoa” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

After our interview & studio visit with the Belgium-based ROA ahead of his solo in New York, we attended the opening to see the results of his hard work over the last month crafting and painting a new body of work entitled Metazoa. Streets: Faith47 – “Una Salus Victis Nullam Sperare Salutem” (Johannesburg)

Una Salus Victis Nullam Sperare Salutem is the name of a new mural from Faith47 in Johannesburg on the corner of Fox and Rissik street. The piece captures some zebras in action along with a phrase that references Virgil’s Aeneid paraphrased by the artist – “the one safety for the vanquished is to abandon hope of safety. Opening: Revok – “Los Angeles” @ Library Street Collective (LA)

Last week, fans of Revok witnessed the opening of his first solo show in LA at a popup space hosted by the Library Street Collective. Entitled simply and appropriately Los Angeles, the new body of work marked a homecoming for the local graffiti legend and consisted of a series of assemblage works which proved to be created with a further refinement in his technique and vision. James Jean – “Psychic Temple” Library Project (Part II)

After introducing you last month to the Psychic Temple project from James Jean (interviewed), we now have an update with some on site photos for you to enjoy. A collaboration between the nomadic Jean and architect Brandon Shigeta, the intriguing undertaking is commissioned by interTrend in Long Beach for their new library. Previews: Patrick Martinez – “FORBIDDEN FRUIT” @ New Image Art

Tonight in Los Angeles, the multidisciplinary work of Patrick Martinez will be on display at New Image Art. FORBIDDEN FRUIT will be the locally-based artist’s first solo in two years and the first with the gallery. Known for his neon pieces that take inspiration from hip hop, graffiti, and perspectives of minority culture, Martinez has created a body of work that includes pieces that combine his signature technique with sculpture and painting. Streets: Clemns Behr for ALT!rove (Catanzaro, Italy)

Kicking off the second edition of the ALT!rove street art festival this year (from 30th April to 9th May) is Clemens Behr with an impressive new mural. This year’s theme is “Abstractism – space>place” and will also feature work from 108, Alberonero, Giorgio Bartocci, Ciredz, Erosie, Graphic Surgery, Sbagliato, Sten Lex and Tellas. In addition to painting walls in Catanzaro, Italy, each artist will participate in a group show at Casa ALT!rove along with others like 2501, Martina Merlini, Moneyless, and Domenico Romeo. Previews: Deth P. Sun – “Being and Nothingness” @ Grumpy Bert

Later this month (April 25th), Deth P. Sun will be opening another show (see 2013) at Brooklyn’s Grumpy Bert entitled Being and Nothingness.
